I have purpura caused by the steroids. The blood spots disappear again after a couple of weeks. At a lower dose I still get them, but around 10mg to 15mg I looked as if I had had a fight with a wild animal sometimes!

Between the blood thinners and the steroids I looked awful. Then one day my granddaughter said she was afraid for me. I explained the reason why I was getting them and this calmed her down.

Oh no and in the Archers they were saying young people liked being frightened! Perhaps if you dressed up in a pointy hat with a green face she might like it!

They do look terrible.I never knew the skin gets so thin where the simple rubbing can make them bleed.

Most of us probably! Pred weakens the capillary walls and they leak causing the red spots, petechiae and purpurae, in response to even slight provocation.

thank you I've never had them before.Scared me.But I ll have much more fun with validation that others have had them

Quite common with Pred - looks a lot worse than it is. Early days (on holiday) I just brushed my arm against a radiator -same effect as you -sent the rest of the family into a spin.

I learned after that to try and protect forearms in particular as much as possible.

Happens to me all the time. They don’t hurt unless the skin is actually broken then they take a long time to heal and the discolouration doesn’t go away. It fades but like piglette my legs look like they have been in a serious accident.

I have had bleeds for no reason

Add Aspirin to the mix and guess what… Currently transitioning from 2.5 to 2mg of Pred, but still bruise easily. My right hand has a permanent change of colour above the thumb / 1st finger. My GP explained it was due to iron in the blood.

I get the red patches a lot. Try to keep your arms covered particularly when doing something like gardening.

Yes I guess our skin has thinned with age and prednisone.Ive just never had them before.Getting old sucks but still glad to be alive.lol

Yes, it's totally aggravating. Lots of the purpura , seem to be confined on arms and legs. Combine that with ultra-thin skin and you can get bleeding events for almost no reason (and regular bandaids can pull the skin off, making it worse). Frustrating, but hoping that eventually getting off prednisone will bring those things back to normal. You are definitely not alone!!!

Use plasters/bandaids that are especially produced for sensitive/thin skin...then you don't tear surrounding area

Even better is a non-stick dressing held in place with a product like Self Fix.
