Hi all. Just been back to my GP and she has diagnosed me as having Urticaria. I usually get an attack of it all over my back, arms and weirdly a couple of "stings on the right side of my forehead". I find this quite painful when I get an attack, this usually happens when I get hot, frustrated and get stressed at work. I do find it debilitating and bloody painful hence the name 'Hives'.
So, just starting a 30 day course of 120mg a day Fexofenadine, and my question is this, does it work???
I look optimistically forward to your replies.
Regards Rob.

Hi Rob,I had a really bad outbreak of urticaria back in Jan. Came completely out of the blue and unfortunately for me the Fexofenadine didn't help initially. After a few days with the hives continuing to spread, my GP prescribed another antihistamine, Hydroxizine at bedtime, aswell as the Fexofenadine in the morning. I also had to increase steroids from the 6mgs I was currently on at the time, up to 30mgs.....reducing 5mg every 5dys till I was back to 6mgs. This finally worked but it did take about 6wks for my skin to fully recover and be free of pink blemishes left by the hives.
I bathed and showered with Dermal500 (and still do) and moisturised with Aveeno. I'm now extremely careful about what I put on my skin and what I wash clothes and bed linen in.
So important to look after the skin and keep it nourished and healthy.
All the medical professionals I consulted during the course of trying to resolve this, all said urticaria emerges always as an allergic reaction to something, though in most cases it's unlikely you'll ever discover what!!
