PMR AND HEART
Hello, does it wake you up then? If you think it’s heart, you do really need advice, even if it goes away again. Intermittent heart pain is a handy warning sign. What sort of pain is it and why do you think it’s heart as opposed to gastric reflux or rib pain? Before my GCA diagnosis if I lay on my left side after a few minutes my heart’s rhythm would become quite deranged until I felt light headed. If I turned over it corrected itself and by the morning it was fine. After a few weeks of Pred it was fine and hasn’t returned.
In a similar vein to Snazzy - did you notice your heart rate at the time? I have atrial fibrillation (cardiologist says due to the autoimmune part of PMR) and it frequently wakes me at night - the cardiologist has also noted that. I have a pulse oximeter (easily obtained from a pharmacy or Big A) and usually I find that is a quick answer to why I feel strange since it isn't always obvious what my heart rate is. And it always leaves me feeling very tired for the rest of the day.
But chest pain that you think might be cardiac in origin always needs to be checked out. Never feel you can't call 999 - they carry ECG devices so can get a far quicker and more reliable measurement, You NEVER have an episode when you are at the GP or they order an ECG!!!
Good question. Don’t know what the two pains you mentioned would feel like. Yes the 2 times it happened it woke me up. The soonest GP appointment I could get is Dec 30. It’s just with trying to reduce pred having a tough time with PMR pain and fatigue and then the heart thing thought it may be related. To PMR PRO heart rate was normal
