Hi,

Hello there, I don’t know what dose you’re on but anecdotally it seems that it is at low doses that some people complain of allergy symptoms, even when they weren’t allergic before. I had the same and it wore off gradually over months. I took a regular antihistamine. However, it is worth thinking about anything that may have changed like washing power/liquid, new foods etc. Are you sure it’s actually eczema? Have you seen a doc about it? Irritated skin isn’t pleasant is it!
Hi, I’ve just got to 2mg.
I have seen the doctor when it was only one patch, he wasn’t sure because it wasn’t in the usual places however it is now, he gave me steroid cream but it hasn’t worked.
That’s interesting about the low dose though.
I think I’ll take your advice and take antihistamines.
Thank you
I don’t know if it is due to prednisolone but I have developed eczema on my left ear
Hi are you taking D3 if not worth getting levels checked as theres a link to eczema or Omega 3 also a link
Thanks, yes I take d3 and was before PMR diagnosis as my vitamin d levels were low. Doctor says d3 for life!. I also take omega 3
Am following this with interest. To be honest I did have eczema as a child and do have dry skin. Have been on prednisolone for about 6 months and have a small rough patch of skin on my wrist. I have wondered if it is a bit if eczema or sun damage or maybe skin infection but now am wondering about the prednisolone - have a phone appt next week so will ask. Hydrocortisone cream has not worked so far.
Hi, that’s strange as I have small patches on both my wrists too! I’m going to pop into see the pharmacist this morning and see if they can tell me, I will let you know later what they say
Is yours itchy? Mine isn't which makes me question eczema. It's just a little red/pink rough patch - not spreading or more appearing yet. I'm tending towards sun damage or maybe some kind of infection. I do feel that my skin and eyes are drier at the moment though so maybe the Pred. Let me know what pharmacist says.
Could they be keratoses?

The image in that is a bit OTT - they can be a lot less obvious.
It's one of the possibilities I'd thought about but yes mine is not that dramatic- just a small (5p piece) area of sandpapery skin.
That was my point - that image is of a severe one. They start and often remain much less obvious - I have them but nothing within a mile of that.
Mine doesn’t look like that, it’s strange as it just started will one itchy spot, almost a bite. It’s just taken over now!
What does the doctor say?
When I first went, there were only a couple of patches. He’s a bit of an alternative GP so seems to thing my skin is screaming instead of myself! 😬
He said Calendula cream and add lavender oil and tea tree oil.
Since I’ve seen him though it’s spread
Alternative is fine if it works but it doesn't sound as if it is - you need to know the cause.
I know, think another trip to the gp I think!
Thank you
Hi, I too had patches of eczema ( well it looked like eczema )quite out of the blue, never had this before, it actually started just before being diagnosed with GCA, the rheumatologist thought it could be connected with the disease, it seems to have calmed down now.
Hopefully yours will settle down soon. Good luck and hope it gets better soon.
Xx
My rhumy sent a letter saying to take d3 as I was taking predisolone
I had a few itchy patches during my PMR which the doctor couldn't really fathom out. But she prescribed Dermol Cream (also available over the counter) and advised me to use it instead of any soap products. It worked for me and I am still using it although I am no longer on pred and currently have no PMR symptoms.
Thank you, I’ll give it ago
I had itchy red patches on legs , forearms and wrists before pred. all gone now.
See I would think that would be the case as you are prescribed steroids for skin infections
no . . Sorry misunderstood your point. I wasn't prescribed anything for this. They ignored the itchy skin along with every other symptom. It only cleared after taking pred. which was a blessing, but the itchy skin was the least of my problems by that time. So your point about low doses may possibly well relate to Adrenal function starting up in some way and trying to recode what was decoded. Highly speculative and unscientific and probably gobbledygook. Just a thought.
Daily flaxseed oil helps my eczema. It has a good proportion of omega 3. Noticed you said it started with what looked like a bite and wondered if you have been taking turmeric. About 5 years ago I began mixing turmeric powder in warm milk with a little coconut oil and black pepper. After a short while what appeared to be a bite appeared on my leg. It was itchy and inflammation began to spread around it. I thought I must have scratched it and infected it. However the itchy rash spread to the rest of my limbs and across my chest. Scattered through it were what looked like flea bites. Eventually I wondered whether the cause might be the turmeric. I googled ‘turmeric allergy’ and found heaps of people describing the same rash. I stopped the turmeric and the rash disappeared. Just thought I’d mention it.
That’s interesting, I had taken it last year but stopped because it didn’t seem to make any difference but maybe it is an allergy to something else, I suppose eliminating is the only way to find out.
I take Nothing Fishy oils everyday and have now got some VitD coming today.
You’ve given me something to think about, thank you!
