Journey and funeral

Hi everyone I’m off to a funeral next week. So to ease the pressure of journey 1.5 hours I booked a b & b for night before as funeral is at 12. I really don’t want to be done in. I’m not good in morning and b & b is just 20 mins from cremation. The quest is should I up pred day before and on actual day to stop any stress reactions. Advice welcome. Thanks

Well done for thinking it through to try to avoid problems. What dose are you on?

17.5 mg

That’s way above any worries about adrenal function so that’s not an issue. It also sounds like you need a bit of consistency with dose too so a just in case rise doesn’t seem appropriate. Do your best not to over do it.

You really shouldn't need to up the dose at the level you are at - it is up to a maximum of 20mg which you are very nearly at anyway and it should be plenty.

And really good to hear you have decided to split the process - it is what I do before anything from event to flying somewhere: get to the place in comfort and plenty of time and have an easy morning. It has never failed me.

Good planning! I am sorry that you’ve lost somebody. I would have a little more in the morning of the funeral if your doctor is agreeable.

My sympathies for your loss.

You probably won't need more pred as you are well above the level where adrenal function could be an issue. It really is when people are lower doses, generally lower than 10, that sometimes a bit of a top up is needed when facing extra stress. In my six years on pred there has only been one time when I realized I should have taken some extra pred, and that was when I injured myself and had an extraordinarily long time at the ER with no food (or, worse, no tea) and I think I was in a bit of shock. But my dose at the time was 2 mg a day!

Definitely the best thing you can do for yourself, as you are doing, is to allow time for rest and recovery from your journey and activities.

Really sensible to split your journey up. Always look for the easiest option I have learnt/ am still learning with this condition. X💐

Funerals here (Northern Ireland) are usually 2 or 3 days after the death. Never enough time for relatives who are in far flung places to get here!
