I have just received my results from my Dexa scan done two years after taking steroids forPMR The hip is +2.4 and spine is +1.3 I am 70 in a few weeks and I have taken Ad-Cal only for the two years. I have been advised to up my dairy intake but I don’t think this is really necessary. What do you think?

I would say take the advice.

If you use butter make sure it is not the spreadable butter.

When I was diagnosed with GCA - one of the people I saw was the dietician - she went through my diet - as I used butter (not spreadable) that was OK. Skimmed milk, advised to change to either whole or semi. Cheese etc which I loved anyway. Yoghurt, kefir etc

You might like to take a look at this:

BTW - Wiki lists nearly 2000 products of 'dairy' - some of which I had never even thought about.

What is wrong with spreadable butter, please?

It is a blend of butter and oil of some sort - which makes it less of a "dairy" product. Not much calcium in olive oil or any other oil ...

I think it was to do with the content. I just accepted what the dietician said.

You could put the question into your search engine.

Are you sure those t-scores are correct? Scores with a plus in front of them mean you have very dense bone - and there would be no concern about your bone density. However - figures like that suggest it could be some osteoarthritis or other reason for increased bone density.

I had a scan at 55 and my doctor couldn’t believe the results he said I had the bones of a 21 year old so I’m presuming they haven’t deteriorated to much. I have put my bones to the test over the years with motorcycle accidents and falling down stairs several times and never breaking a bone!

My doctor just says I’m normal and no changes. Never gives any numbers! So I’m surprised how much better info other people have and I feel kind of dumb. I Guess I have to be more assertive and ask!
