Depends how you look at it. PMR is the name given to a set of symptoms that can be due to a variety of underlying conditions. In our case it is an as yet unidentified autoimmune condition. But it is important for the other potential causes to be ruled out which can be done by various blood tests and then they label what you have as polymyalgia rheumatica and that is what is understood by the term.
