I think that about 3 people have managed to obtain a blue badge and shared it with us on here. It is a tedious and repetitive process and sometimes you only succeed on appeal. It is worth a try if you remain determined you will probably get one. We do fit the criteria.

Do you have any other issues that hamper your walking....I have osteoarthritis and lumbar issues so I have had one for long time. Some days I don’t need it, but other days I do, and usually the criteria is for illnesses that are long term and likely to deteriorate.

However (believe it’s still true) blue badges can be issued for temporary use...so it might be worth applying.

PMR and GCA may be long term illnesses, but once treated they are not degenerative.

I reapplied last year, (same procedure whether new or replacement) and found it straightforward...you just need info to hand.

Thankyou yes it would be invaluable for temporary use as hopefully we all will make a significant recovery it’s just some days I feel unable to walk either through extreme tiredness or stiffness so fed up having to plan my route anywhere taking into account where there are places I can sit down

Well it’s worth a try...nothing ventured, nothing gained! Just concentrate on worst days when completing questions.

In terms of the Blue Badge all you can really do is apply and see what happens because different authorities have different rules. The criteria have been tightened - one is that you can't walk 50m. A doctor pointed out that the question is - can you walk 50m repeatedly - as you would in real life - and saying the right thing is important.

I applied for one only just before Lockdown but l think it was the Angina that swung it, though at the time my PMR was very poor & not controlled as well as I had been & us now. But l can’t walk far, so l am extremely grateful for it 🙏🏼

The extreme tiredness may be because your adrenal glands are having to wake up. I felt like a wet rag at 5mg. I was total fatigued all the time.

I had a blue badge after car crash, but it was taken away when the new disability benefit came in. I have pmr fibromyalgia osteo arthritis residual car crash injuries and a benign tumour on my spine. But because I have the ability to walk a short distance i was rejected. So I don’t go shopping, everything delivered for two years now. I go to garden centres but that’s it! I used a wheelchair to do supermarkets before, the cold affected my Muscles spasms badly and I fell down too many times for it to be safe. ‘They’ knew that, I appealed, no go! All I can give is my personal story! S x
