Any answers for this?

I suffered from Reiter’s Syndrome when I was 16, my left knee swelled up and I couldn’t’t walk. Was hospitalised for a month until a specialist diagnosed this unusual illness usually associated with sexual activity in German soldiers!! In my case no sexual activity at all! However, it is to do with inflammation of the joints and I was on crutches for months, really screwed up my A levels.

Does this have any connection with me now having PMR?

Logically it ought to because in the same way the body’s immune system is triggered and behaves abnormally against its own tissues. Your body has shown an early disposition to things going that way. The specialist could have been a bit more helpful in saying that reactive arthritis is exactly that, a response to something like an infection, not just from STD’s. Some bugs are more common (or more easily detected) than others to cause it, it certainly not just sexually transmitted diseases. I remember seeing it in two male students after contracting a very common and often asymptomatic infection of Chlamydia. I also saw it in a woman after a gastrointestinal infection, can’t remember which. Have a read of this mayoclinic.org/diseases-con...

Reiter's syndrome is also called reactive arthritis and is actually a reaction to the toxins from an infection, usually bacterial, improving once the original infection is cleared. No need to think long about the link with soldiers but in fact it happens in response to a variety of infections.

I think DadCue on here has had a reactive arthritis in the past and later developed PMR symptoms. Are they linked? Who knows.
