Vitimin D and PMR
Difficult to say how it affects PMR but low vit D levels can lead to symptoms that are very similar to PMR - sort the low vit D and it may also sort your symptoms.
I have tried to take vitamin D but it really as a bad effect on my stomach. Maybe if I tried but D drops it might be better.
My husband usually reacts to anything - but he uses a vit D spray without any gut problems. Are you taking just vit D or a calcium/vit D preparation?
Right now I am not taking any vit D. But was thinking of trying the vit D drops. If they give it to babies it should be easier to take I hope. I have a real problem taking any medication I am having a bad flare of PMR right now so am desperately trying to find a solution I upped my Pred from 6mg to 7mg yesterday and went for some blood work but won’t know the results for a few days.
A friend of mine who is a physiotherapist says so many people who come to her with different aches and pains and she always tells them to get their Vit D levels checked - she says in many cases no further treatment is necessary! So yes I think Vit D is more imortant than many realise.
My sister with RA had very low vit D, she was so I'll I took her to the doctors, she must now take 25ug every day. She is vegetarian, so lots of things not eaten with D in it.......she made a remarkable recovefy....
Thank you for your reply. Out here in Edmonton Albert they don’t want to test for D. But I am sure I must be low. I will try it and see if I feel better. How long before your sister seen results??
About a couple of weeks. Here it's quite cheap for the test, but trying it first, good idea. Her worst symptom was fatigue.....mood......confusion. She has RA, so she probably wouldn't notice extra pain, it varies daily anyway. She buys lots when on offer...relies on it!.....
Good luck.....
Actually, there really isn't even a lot for non-veggies with vit D: wild salmon and liver! Can't afford the one and don't like the other! Otherwise eggs, cheese and mushrooms. And apparently if you put the mushroom out in the sun for an hour or so before cooking them, the vit D level shoots up!
Yes, quite right. My sister dosen`t eat eggs, veggie cheese, whatever that is.....does eat mushrooms.....but she is so much better.
Have just got good news, N&N hospital just rang, I have an appointment in two weeks time to actually see DR Max Yates!.....so pleased, will get my questions written down so I don`t forget anything... You said to ask how to access his thesis, do you still want me to ask that?....quite happy to.....he`s very approachable....
No - joking really though if it has an abstract that would be possible and interesting maybe.
Veggie cheese is cheese that is made without animal rennet (made from a calf's stomach) and there are loads nowadays. You have to be careful - parmesan and other such regional speciality cheeses are almost never vegetarian but there are loads made with vegetarian rennet if you look at the labelling. I say that - here in Austria and here at least. The UK - not so sure!
Thought maybe it was joke, that`s why I asked.....
OH just said why are you bothering with another doctor.......I somehow don`t think he will be like the last two!
If I were in the UK I wouldn't be joking - but to access a thesis from here would probably be a bit of a pain!!! OTOH - if it IS available digitally ...
Tell OH that hope springs eternal!!!!
Vitamin D may not necessarily help with PMR but it is good to take to keep the bodies level high as it apparently helps reduce the severity of Coronavirus should you become infected
