I am so tired, : hi,everyone,i am on 15mg... - PMRGCAuk
I am so tired,
It is all about PACING - and resting appropriately. You have a systemic illness - like flu in some ways. In some people the pred gives them a Duracell Energiser Bunny boost but that just encourages them to do too much and then they crash. Either way, get too tired and it is difficult to recover. Have a read of the links here:
Extreme tiredness really goes hand in hand with these autoimmune diseases. The only solution I have found is a proper nap after lunch. My body has decided that I need exactly 90 minutes. I have begun to see these naps as a treat rather than an imposition. I often have the best dream filled sleep of the 24 hour period. My night sleep is often broken and troubled especially now that GCA has been added to my PMR diagnosis, and higher dose Pred ( the sleep stealer). This discipline has enabled me to have a bit of a life and even an evening.
Are you relatively newly diagnosed too? If so, you seem to be reducing quite rapidly at 20 mgs a time. ( Previous Post). This will also effect how you feel. From now on, one of the slower tapering programmes on here ( see the right of your screen, pinned posts) will help you to manage more comfortably. A bit more information on your profile will help people to help you. Eg when you were diagnosed etc.
Not sure about tingling legs but there are so many weird symptoms with Pred. Mention it to your doctor. Remember that you have a serious systemic disease and you will need to behave like a poorly person for a while yet.
High Five for the 90 minute naps S.J. Mine aren't quite that long but VITAL to get through the day.
I am so sorry to hear you developed GCA and hope you are mananing to get both conditions under control?
Has any research been done on links between PMR/GCA and the likelihood of one leading to the other. I think you have had PMR for some time...?
They are just different expressions of the same disorder really. But why someone gets one or the other or both isn't known.
Bit hard work - but there is this:
Exactly as PMRPro says. Very thankful for a curious Rheumatologist. Doing ok so far, been authorised for Tocilizumab. One day at a time. Coming down off Pred quite rapidly - not too bad so far. Really hopeful.
The research project I am involved with may shed some light on the predisposition of some patients to develop GCA, pathology.
