Rollators!

Without going into the oft heard problems of tapering too much - you would think I should know them, but still manage to overshoot and do silly things!!! - I’m interested in experiences of rollators. There seem to be many types - and prices! My mobility is very limited, stiff and painful at the moment but I’m determined to keep as many muscles in operation as possible. I’m using a Zimmer in the house for the first time and find it invaluable - but would like to use something on the grass outside. I would need, at the moment, to be able to sit down.

Anybody got any experiences?

Best wishes to you all.

I bought a shopping trolley with a seat - it is brilliant. It is Westminster Sholley Trolley - not cheap but worth its weight in gold. I shop fill the bag and then sit out it waiting for my taxi.

If you put 'Shopping trolley with seat' in your search engine.............you can see loads of picture and prices..............worth a shot. If you do decide to look, ensure you make sure about the weight it will carry........

You can search rollator. My friend has one with 4 wheels and we have gone to the countryside. Only stoney paths cause issues. It has a good strong plastic padded seat with a small bag underneath for shopping etc. I think she paid 70 or 80 pounds from a proper place and because she has arthritis you get vat relief. Makes a big difference. Most towns have them.... We have Clarke's, complete care etc. The 4 wheels much more stable and some fold for storage. She is 85 and can move it easily.

I've had one for 5 years - life would have been unbearable without it.

Actually I have 3!!! 1 is for flat, easy surfaces and is foldable, 1 is a sturdy one for carrying heavy/awkward things around in the house, 1 is foldable but can be quickly converted into a wheelchair (even when we go out - which isn't even allowed at the moment)😏👵🏻.

The only thing I would say is none of them work really well on grass. There are bumps/clumps that keep stopping you.

Good luck!🍀🍀🍀

Great info, thank you! I’ve done a lot of searching! I have difficulty realising that the illness means I have moved into the ‘rollator’ category!! I’ve got to get over that too!!

I imagine if you ask the local physiotherapy or occupational therapy departments they would advise on suitable options, Durham had a shop attached to a day centre where you co go to look at the various options for all sorts of things and get advice.

These talk about the important factors to get a rollator that will work on not perfectly smooth surfaces:

walkerforseniors.com/all-te...

wegetsafe.com/best-rollator...

and finally - took some finding! - a UK-based site:
