Yes, 3 times. Once in Germany not long after my second daughter was born, once in the UK when the effect of the treatment done in first one was obviously wearing off and the third for the same reason here in Italy for the same reason.

both explain what is being done.

The procedure itself isn't painful, possibly a bit uncomfortable. I have never had any any form of sedation or anaesthetic even though I also had a procedure carried out which is a bit nippy at the time. That was because in Germany and Italy they didn't offer any anaesthetic for the procedure anyway so when it was suggested in the UK I said just get on with it! But the cystoscopy itself is just done with local anaesthetic gel and that is enough. It is just to look at the lining of the bladder - then they decide if anything else is required to be done.

I had one done about a couple of years ago and was told i was being sedated. It was only a light sedation and i was up and about after a cup.of.tea and a biscuit and didnt have any pain after either. Good luck. YBB

Yes, I had one about 18 months ago- pre PMR. It was because 2 or 3 consecutive urine samples showed a trace of blood (haematuria). It was painless and I watched it all on-screen. They give you an antibiotic immediately afterwards. I did have significant bleeding at home afterwards which stopped after several hours. Was told this was common and given a course of antibiotics. Since then my urine samples always have a trace of blood and it's described as "historic haematuria". So probably just me?! I know several other people with the same issue. Hope that helps.

Yes! I had one last week. It was my first visit to urologist after repeated urine infections and numerous antibiotics . The consultant applied a local anaesthetic gel to numb the area first. It wasn’t painful just a little uncomfortable. Could see the inside of the bladder on the camera.

They pump water into the bladder so definitely needed to “go” afterwards! Procedure only took about 5 minutes and he discussed the results straight away. Very impressive. Bit of bleeding for a couple of hours afterwards but nothing significant.

Hope your experience is as good.

I had this a few years ago, I was terrified,, but no need to worry I did not have sedation or anything and I did not feel anything and I did not bleed after either, so all was good and I would not worry at all to go through it again. Good luck, hope this helps xx
