Are we safe to have Pneumonia jab whilst taking steroids? 😊

I had mine about this time last year without any ill consequences. I asked the nurse about having it while on pred and she assured me it was safe. The nice thing is that one jab is for life unlike the flu jab.

Yes. Even I've had that shot! And my doctor who gave my husband the other pneumonia shot (there are two, they protect against different strains, and my husband tends to get lung infections relatively often) even told him that she could justify offering that second shot to me as my immune system is supposed to be depressed by pred, although she hasn't actually mentioned it to me.

As it doesn’t contain any live bacteria - the answer is yes!

You can have any vaccination at any time as long as the infectious agent (whether a virus or bacteria) is dead and you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.

You can expect to have a day or so of low-grade fever, headache and body aches in the aftermath. This is because your immune system is busy learning how to manufacture, and is manufacturing, the antibodies that will protect you in subsequent exposures to live agents. The site of the shot may also give you a bit of discomfort.

Really, get vaccinated.
