"Glucocorticoids (e.g., dexamethasone, methylprednisolone, prednisone) are known to increase the white blood cell (WBC) count upon their initiation. The increase in WBC count is primarily contributed from neutrophils (polymorphonuclear leukocytes; PMN)."
As gifford has said - it is a perfectly normal resoinse to being on pred which increases one particular sort of white cell, the neutrophils, and so the overall total is also increased.
Yes, couple of years ago, doctor said white blood cells are raised, but nothing to worry about....
Mine are raised everytime.
Mine are always raised. Had mine checked last Wednesday, white blood cells and neutrophils both raised, doc said it’s the prednisone.
Thank you.I have access to my bloodwork on line and when i had pmg 9 yrs ago i didnt.Dr never mentioned if it was raised before.Kinda scared me!!
My doctor sometimes says I have, he seems to panic about it much more than I do.
Oh, yes. I certainly do, and my rheumatologist says almost everyone on Prednisone has an elevated white count.
Mine were at 17.5. This was after 2 months of 20 mg. After reducing 1 mg every 2weeks for 2 months it came down to 11.
