DXA scans

I have just read Healthworrier et al for the 7th. By coincidence I had just received my own results, having requested a copy from my Consultant's secretary. I do not see my Consultant 'til next April and did not want to wait 'til then. I have found it very interesting. However they talk in the covering letter not only about T scores but also about Z scores. Can someone enlighten me about what these are?

Hi prunus, I hope this helps. I always ask to be cc'd into reports these days. My recent dexa was only reported in t scores (UK)

"The T-score is a comparison of a person's bone density with that of a healthy 30-year-old of the same sex.

The Z-score is a comparison of a person's bone density with that of an average person of the same age and sex."

That is very interesting. Am I right in assuming that Normal, Osteopenia and Osteoporosis parameters remain the same?

This is the full article. It explains scans and scores and may help.
