Hello, have had PMR for 1 year and 10 months. Have been keeping active with moderate exercise and stretching. My shoulders are fine now. But my upper legs, knees and torso still very stiff. But getting better. My question is when PMR is getting better does it improve like mine. Arms better first, upper legs still stiff, difficult to bend etc? Any feedback would be great. Thank you.

Others will be along soon when they wake up.

It's unclear from your post whether you are taking prednisolone/prednisone.

If you are, for most people it relieves all or nearly all symptoms.

As squashie says it's not clear where you are pred wise. That may help us answer you.

That said, I don't think there's a particular order if recovery FOR ME. In fact it's more a state of flux....some days legs groan, others arms/shoulders. It can depend what activities I have been doing and whether the pred is covering all the bases. If I have been walking more then OTC painkillers help manage the increased muscle pain. The only constant has been fatigue and that even has its own continuum from mild fatigue to deathly fatigue.

I don't believe PMR "recovers" in the way we usually think of with illness. I think the underlying autoimmune disorder chugs along, sometimes a bit more active, sometimes a bit less active, and in some people it may tend to peak at a slightly lower level than last time - in that sense it may be a recovery for some people. But in others it may bumble along at a similar level as long as it goes on and then burn out fairly suddenly. In others it may vary, in degree and area affected. Everyone is different - and it is more than likely that there are several different versions of PMR.

In the meantime, the idea is that you remain on the dose of pred that manages all those symptoms as well as the starting dose did - it was your guideline.

Thank you, I have been off prednisone since January. Getting better. Shoulders are good but hips, quads etc still very tight. Dr. Gave me anti inflammorty which works but I take sparingly

Anything an antiinflammatory besides pred works for is possibly something other than PMR. They rarely have much effect for some reason.

My symptoms are transitory...going from one place to another, without particular pattern. Currently my biceps muscles have niggles, but other locations are behaving.

upper body for me is much worse than lower body. only my hamtrings on the lower body are bothered. Hips are fine. neck, shoulders, wrists, hands, fingers seem to be most of my problems
