Could the vascular changes that cause pain in Fibromyalgia also be responsible for PMR pain?

Following my last post, have Just started on the depressing task of reading through all the articles linked to PMR pain in hands & feet & also on Fibromyalgia. I have come across this article...

bottomlineinc.com/health/fi...

It suggests that Fibromyalgic pain in hands & feet is connected with very specific, measurable vascular changes. If PMR is also possibly a vascular disease then I wonder if the same vascular changes occur in people with PMR?

That’s interesting. Thanks for posting.

Thanks sosarah. I had a look. I was trying to get to the original article by rice in pain jnl but couldn't. Research on a smartphone ain't fun with my sausage fingers!

I did get on a fibro site which I think was called fedupwithfatugue and the author SAID they had spoken to Dr rice and s/he said the results were far from as clear cut as stated in the bottom line article. and were certainly more tentative. The bottomlineinc is sponsored by pharma as was the research. The findings might be promising but sounds like funding stopped- that could be positive (as it challenges paradigm of fibro as CNS issue as pharma making money from that) and negative (not enough evidence to shift entire paradigm of theories of fibro causes).

I am even cautious with academic research as well as pharma funded (often same thing). That's why I like to check the original research in a reputable journal where researchers go through proper protocols regarding methods and ethical issues etc and the refereed by their peers/others . If I can see what they did, how they did it, and how the analysis of the data was done and why that form of analysis was done I can get a better sense of it's rigour.

Having said all that....I like the t articles from magazines, online etc too, especially if they are not trying to sell me something!!

No - the changes in the vascular part of that part of fibromyalgia is due to a nerve problem that makes the AV shunts not function as they should do - it is not due to vasculitis. It doesn't really change the view that fibro is due to a nerve malfunction.
