60, 55, 50, 45... 60!

Wait what?

Too much too soon.

Square one.

What's the duration in time between reducing 🤔

in reply to

Rheumy had me coming down by 5 mg per week... Way to fast and furious.

in reply to

It sounds fast to me. But I have only experienced PMR. Let's hope DL or PMRpro can provide some guidance 🤔

in reply to

It was way too aggressive... but I was more than willing to go along, "hook line and sinker!"

Hi

Early days I reduced 5mg a month provided no problems. Result - no flares!

If you reduce on a Weekly basis, you are never sure that the dose you are on is enough before you reduce again.

It's OK - you'll only do it once. And actually, if you were reducing 5mg a week, you have only gone back to where you should have been after 3 weeks. Look at it that way and it won't feel such a waste!

One of the worst things about being straight line girls in a round world is that it's really frustrating, and frustration is not our strong suit.

What I've learned is that when I put the frustration aside, I have an easier time doing what needs to be done, even if it goes against my grain. What's required here is the understanding that because there are a lot of eternally moving parts in this condition, that straight line needs to be bent to the circumstances. What works today may not work tomorrow, because the variables of inflammation, medicine, rest, exercise, food and stress are always different - from moment to moment, not just day to day.

So I've taken the approach of "it is what it is", and deal with it as it comes. I've been getting better results most days.

They say that ultimately, there's a good chance this will burn itself out. My goals have shifted now. I intend to minimize the collateral damage, and still be here when it's finally over.

Good_grief: So well said. "And still be here when it is over".

My addendum if I may offer it.... in the best shape we can be, whatever that may be.

My Rheumy advised the same reduction for me -5mg at a time, but my gut instinct based on advice from this site told me to do it very much slower. I got to their mg dose in the end but in my own time. 5mg is a high % of your dosage 😡

Yes... it was! And, boy... did I pay dearly! Hope your tapering is going well!

in reply to

I think I’ve been lucky... my diagnosis was swift and doctor was familiar with PMR/GCA but yes thanks I’m down to 10.5mg tapering by 0.5 per week, so far no returning symtoms but very tired after 2pm, no more false energy ... 😏

Good on you!!!! Keep up the good work! Fingers crossed no "back-slides" for you!
