Considered low risk for those on a low dose of pred but low dose varies from doc to doc and I can't remember anyway. You would need to check with your doc. Hope this helps.

Hi ronzy,

I was told not safe for us as it is a live vaccine, liable to give us shingles. That's all we need!

Ronzy, I was offered it too - looked it up and both auto-immune illnesses and steroids are listed as contra-indicated.

After reading that I did check with a doctor friend to ask if she could think why, in that case, was I being offered it? She said "ah, but it all depends; based on your weight and the actual dose of steroids"

As I've already had shingles, and it all sounded like a classic 'you pays your money and you takes your choice' to me, I decided on balance I didn't want to risk waking my dormant herpes zoster up, and declined. I think it has to be individual decision, and the cautious amongst us are tending to say No thanks.

NO, you cannot get a shingles vaccine while I'm n Prenisone, it is a live virus!!!!!!

But the advice is it is OK with lower doses. OTOH - see my posts below.

I have been on a low dose, below 10 for 4 years, but here in the states my Dr. Said no because it is a live virus.

Just saw the commercial on this vaccine and it stated to check with the doctor if one is on a high dose prednisone. Not sure what is considered a high dose......

20mg is the usual limit.

In theory yes, in practice it may be another problem that is more important.

PMR is listed as a possible side effect of the shingles vaccine. If you have already got PMR - I really can't imagine it is a good idea.

What I am a little concerned about is the time I have been os pred. 5years plus. Os is it just curren dosage. 🤔

The current dose - but I wouldn't have it. If it can CAUSE PMR and the manufacturer admits that (that's what my link is about) then I wouldn't want to risk what it could possibly do to existing PMR.

Ronzy

Just last week my Doctor (Rheumatologist) said no "live vaccines" and I believe that the Shingles vaccine is live. You may want to speak to a Rheumatologist.
