Therapy for Depression Readily Available on NHS through Self Referral

Hi All,

In answering another post I realised that not everyone will know that there is support in UK, on the NHS, for depression and anxiety. This can be accessed via completion of an electronic self referral on the web. Support is available at different levels determined via a telephone assessment. Following submission of the self assessment I had a phone call to acknowledge receipt within two hours of submission. In two days I had a call to arrange timing of the telephone assessment which was completed within days of the self assessment submission.

The assessor listens and asks questions, assesses your needs and the type of treatment from the menu they think may benefit you. There is a bit of a wait (12 weeks) for my treatment but meanwhile I will need to complete monthly questionnaire so that they can monitor any changes. Obviously the speed of support and mode of support will vary according to need.

I have specific details for Essex, but anyone can find it by typing in Google search bar the following;

IAPT NHS Self referral (town and / or county)

The value of being proactive and self referring is a tonic in itself, empowering!
