I have Manuka honey on porridge...and yoghurt.. and if really pushing the boat out....ice cream.
Can't say if it's doing any good, but it's nice!
Thank you
Brohule, I've been having Manuka honey for years, either on my porridge or in my small pot of 'live' yoghurt. Among its benefits, it is claimed to be good for the immune system but it is important to only buy the Manuka honey covered by the UMF trademark - this is the guarantee that the honey has the special non-peroxide antibacterial activity to at least the level indicated on the label. There has been a surge of different brands appearing on the shelves in the last few years, with many masquerading as the real thing, but most of those are not genuine. There has been an article in the press recently following some research on a random number of different brands. Only a couple came out as the genuine thing, meaning that the results of the tests confirmed the antibacterial activity was as listed on the product. M&S was one of these. During my years on steroids, I remember having just one infection, so I like to think it does me good......especially with its price tag!
With regard to lemon, I add a few squeezes to a glass of warm water as my first drink of the day. Again, something I've done for years. It's recommended as a good detox first-thing, added to which taken before a meal can help to avoid reflux.
Thank you
I used to take yogurt and manuka honey, but ran out of honey. I have not noticed it has made much difference but I do like the honey and yogurt!
Thsnk you
Thank you
I tried it some time ago (making sure it had the necessary UMF certification), as someone recommended it to help with acid reflux, which I've had for years. I've always been a honey-eater (and a bee-keeper for some years), but I didn't notice any changes/benefits from taking the Manuka honey. So, I still need a minimal dose of lansoprazole to help with my reflux - but am going to try the lemon remedy suggested in a previous reply.
I continue to use honey to help with a sore throat; otherwise I only use it externally, as now I'm on pred I'm trying to be careful about sugar spikes.
Thank you
I take it if I get a cough or a cold but not generally x
~Used in wound dressings especially for burns here in NZ with results that are positive in initiating healing.
I use it in my cacao drink sparingly as it is still sugar but a far healthier type. I wouldn't be without it, the higher the UMF the better, but it is expensive.
As Celtic mentions make sure your money is buying the genuine "stuff".
Manaka honey & lemon would make an excellent tonic in my books ~
I did buy and have it everyday during last winter in warm water and lemon. Unfortunately I still seemed to get infections and colds so I concluded it didn't really work for me. I do though continue to have the warm water and lemon every day first thing. I've also purchased a locally made honey and have that in my first drink of lemon and warm water- just really like it!
