If you are interested and want to see all the responses to a thread you need to click on the middle box below a first post in a thread. Otherwise you will only see replies to your own comment. It may be you clicked on the box without realising - you get a green banner saying Followed or Unfollowed as you do it. That is the only thing I can think of.
