Welcome Hurdles although I'm sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with PMR and what rotten timing whilst on a Caribbean cruise.
It will help us to help you if you can provide some further information, importantly whether you have been prescribed Prednisolone and, if so, at what dose. The usual starting dose for PMR is 15mg but occasionally slightly higher doses are given. At the right starting dose, most people can expect a reduction in their pain levels of at least around 70% within a week or so of taking their first dose, sometimes within hours.
I did find a large electric heat pad helped enormously, particularly on my painful neck and shoulders but, unfortunately, the relief isn't long-lasting. But do come back with some more information - there is always someone around to help from their vast experience.
Oh Bless you Hurdles what rotten timing! Yes warmth does help, I was in fact standing in front of the window with my very painful thigh muscles pressed against the radiator earlier! As Celtic says a heat pad helps, have you been diagnosed at home & started on Prednisolone yet?
Keep in touch, everyone is happy to help, guide or advise you.
A rotten start to 2017 but Good Wishes 💐

Welcome Hurdles, although sorry you find yourself here.
There are so many knowledgeable people on this forum, use it to ask questions and you will also find there are always people willing to support and make you feel you are not alone.
I have used a heat pad, it does give a feeling of relief, however, for me once the pad is removed the pain returned.
Steroids seem to be the only real answer until the condition goes of its own accord.
I hope you manage to enjoy the cruise and the Dr's can manage your pain.
Best wishes.
So glad you have found us. I discovered a heated mattress pad that has made all the difference. I get relief from achy joints and muscles after lying down at night and am not as stiff in the morning. I even used it in the middle of the day recently when it was particularly cold and rainy. It is similar to an electric blanket but it goes under the bottom sheet. You don't feel wires at all. Highly recommend it.
