prednisolone and hemmoroids

Since being on Preds my hemmoroids went away but now that I am down to 5mg they have returned don't know wether to laugh or cry,I am tempted to increase dosage to see the back of them no pun intended.

I'm inclined to think it is coincidence - pred wouldn't normally be used to treat haemorrhoids and there is no reason to think it would help as they aren't due to inflammation. There are things that do help though - do ask your doctor.

Could pred have reduced *symptoms* caused by haemorrhoids?

I don't think so - it's a different cause. I did have a fairly good google to get some info. But who knows - I've come to the conclusion that most things are possible...

Hi. Strangely enough my last reduction to 7.5mg of pred seems to have brought hemaroids to the fore. I've only ever been troubled once before but this time is much worse. It's responded to Anusol but I have to use it regularly both internal as well as external. The skin in general thins with pred so maybe this is a factor with the hemaroids. Or is it just a coincidence  x

Me too. Remember hemmoroids are blood vessels too. Makes sense.

I have to agree with the others...... when I tried to reduce to 6 mg my haemorrhoids returned with a vengeance!  I thought I was having a flare for other reasons so went back up to 7 mg and the haemorrhoids settled. I am now reducing again so it will be interesting to see if they return.

I had the opposite reaction. When I had been on 60mg pred for 5 weeks I got a hemroid for the 1st time ever. Also cheek went black. Blood pressure was 210/150. Dr said it was burst blood vessel. Read that pred causes high blood pressure and on NHS website it quotes that possible cause of hemroids is high blood pressure. Rheumy said she had not heard of HBP causing hemroids but I'm not so sure. Luckily the hemrd went after couple of weeks and got BP down to more reasonable level, as pred dropped to 40mg.

Strangely, and nothing to do with haemorrhoids, for years I suffered with itchy scalp at back of my head which nothing the doctor prescribed or I tried seemed to help. Once on the Prednisolone it went!  So for nearly 2 years I have been itch free! More recently since reducing below say 10mg I am itching again!! Irritating. Again excuse pun.
