Beer and fibromyalgia

Just saw this article. As Christmas parties are now in full force what better time to research whether this treatment would also work for PMR?

Ah yes - but it means that I'd have to give up wine to find out if the PMR got worse. So I'll assume it helps - it certainly is a pleasure in life and they aren't always to the fore in PMR are they!

Unfortunately I always get a headache after a drink of beer. Will have to try again and make sure I'm not dehydrated at the time. :D

Read the article properly - it isn't just beer. I don't do beer (except in China). Though on reflection - I did feel better in China but I put it down to 5mg instead of 4mg pred...

I agree with polkadotcom as well!

I do too if I have more than a small glass, same with wine. I reckon it's the sulphites they use. I've managed to find and organic sulphite free wine in M&S but no luck with the beer as yet.

I have tested this personally and I can say for sure that I feel a whole lot better after a dram or two!

Alcohol definitely works for me, although I hate beer so go for beverages that I like. The other evening I was having dinner with neighbours and they had a wonderful armagnac, that really works!

One lady on the forums is otherwise known as the Brandy Queen! She swears by a small glass - and she doesn't even like it (so she says!).

Suits me! ;)

Going out for a pre-Christmas lunch today so will try wine therapy which certainly sounds more agreeable than many of the things we are recommended. Thanks for the link.

I've been on Pred since Sept 2014, started at 60mg...down to 10mg...loved to have my wine or voduka...sadly i must say, I have not had any alcohol since , it is now 1 yr and 4 months...I have read that alcohol and Pred do not mix and should not have while on meds. Did I just waste all that time? Lol...is it safe to drink while on Pred and does it have any effect on CRP/SED RATE? Would live to have a few glasses of wine. Thanks Bert403

Technically, prednisone is processed in the liver to make prednisolone, the active substance. Really, if you are on any medications that are processed by the liver it is a good idea not to drink too much. If you wish to use paracetamol/acetaminophen as a pain killer it really is a no-no with alcohol as it on its own can cause liver damage.

However - I was put on a form of prednisone, my GP knows I drink (we live in wine country!) and has never said anything. Does it have any effect on CRP/sed rate? No idea - mine have never been raised!

However, in this paper (which you can read if you follow the link)

arthritis-research.com/cont...

it says "Low to moderate alcohol consumption was related to lower levels of inflammation markers but had no impact on immune response."

Thanks for your reply...I have GCA so I don't have any pain...I just stopped alcohol when I started Pred. ..I read on this site that people do drink and I was wondering if it's Ok...like I mentioned I read that you should not mix the two. Maybe a bottle of wine will cure this nightmare...lol I just want off this drug and don't want anything to slow the process. Have a drink for me....thanks
