steph 1,Hi my ESR was 75. 3 weeks back this week is 57but I just feel the same, mind you I am still on 30mg,s of preds and have been for the last 3 Months,it looks like they have changed the goal post for the ESR.as when I was in hospital they told me your ESR were half your age+15,so for me that would make my ESR,s 49,I wonder if anyone knows any different to this.it is very confusing,

Hope you get some sensible answers soon, and don't worry as 2 is very good.

PS are you sure the 2 was not for your C Reactive protein .

kind regards steph1 Anne( Ritter)

According to lab results sheets the normal range for ESR is between 3-15 and for CRP is below 10... but these are only a base guideline and do not allow for individual differences, such as age or any pre-existing conditions that may affect the results...

Slightly above or below these ranges are what might be considered high or low normals.

Anything considerably higher or lower than the 'normal' range will be flagged on the results as *high/*low or ***HIGH/***LOW depending on the numbers and would warrant a review or investigation.

Just to say that different hospital trusts use different scales for both ESR & CRP.

I was quite surprised when I was told this, but two hospitals within 15 miles of each other but in different trusts use different scales.

Both ESR & CRP are guidelines and must be taken into consideration with 'clinical symptoms' and ' how you feel'. They are not tablets set in stone. They can and will be raised or lowered if, for instance, you have a cold, kidney infection, virus or something else going on.
