We are one week into our 25th Anniversary Fundraiser for the "Linie Moore Memorial Research Fund". Our goal is $10,000 and so far we have 27 donations totaling $3600. Most research for rare diseases is self-funded. When this organization began Linie didn't wait for a drug company, biotech or a government agency to take an interest in researching PBC. Not wanting our members & future patients to wait for others to start looking for a cure, the organization created unique ways for raising funds for Dr Gershwin's studies - inspired us all to save coins, sell crafts, ask friends etc. We partnered with ALF years ago on "The PBC Fund the Cure" and raised 1.5 million dollars for PBC research projects which resulted in a better understanding of our disease and the mouse model being developed. Dr Gershwin gives his mice free to any studies looking into PBC and even pays the postage. Our donations are a source for driving research forward and everyone who has donated in the past have been a part of what has been accomplished.
We have many new members who may not know that 100% donations received go to research without any overhead expenses being deducted as this organization is run by a very small group of volunteers. The donations are also given to research looking at the autoimmune features, causes and a cure for PBC. They are not given to pharmaceuticals as many believe.
