Find a good Gastrointerologist and then research him/her and set up an initial appt and interview him/her and see if you and the doctor are on the same page for your health needs.
I go to university of Louisville outpatient.. my specialist name is dr. Louise marsno! Try to get his appointment you will be amazed how he explains things! Good luck

Hi. I live in Sydney too and was only diagnosed on 29/4/13. Haven't been told about any support groups in Sydney so this site is absolutely invaluable. Feel like I have learnt so much here already. I do have a lovely gastro though that is very understanding and knowledgeable.....as much as you can be with this unpredictable illness.

hi, your the only person iv come across from ireland let alone dublin, and im on lodes of pbc sites, im not to bad since iv given up work couldnt do it any more, i find the joint and musle pain the worst, dont have much of the itch thank god, how are you, do you know of any groups that have chats ect. about pbc
Hi Ann, Nice to hear from you. My doc in Artane says he has me and one other patient with PBC. As you know its quite rare. Some days I have problems with everything. Tiredness, pain in joints as well as liver area and of course the dreaded itch. I was told to give up work as an employer would not be insured if anything were to happen due to PBC. No I dont know of any other groups that speak of PBC. In fact everyone I know has never heard of it as I hadnt before I was diagnosed. Keep well Ann. Up the Dubs!

As I said to Ann, there, I'm from Co Down, Northern Ireland and I haven't come across anyone else from NI so its nice to 'meet' others from Ireland. I had to give up work due to other conditions, asthma, arthritis, depression, fibromyalgia, hiatis hernia, migraine, raynauds, sciatica, scleroderma, sjogren's, etc, so I've been unable to work for ages. While they were treating me for all that lot they discovered I had PBC, too. As you say, most people haven't even heard of it. Well, stay well, all the best, (

I'm from Co Down, in Northern Ireland. Haven't found anyone else yet from NI but its good to meet other people from Ireland. I've had PBC for about 6years. I was diagnosed in a July and my sister was diagnosed in the November of the same year. I'd never heard of this before I took it. The PBC Foundation in Edinburgh have been very helpful. I got a great book from them, entitled, 'Living with PBC' and its been very useful indeed. All the Best, Mags (
Hi Anne, Hope you are doing well. It sounds like you have some of the same conditions as me. Mine include...Asthma, Stomach Ulcers, Post herpital nueralgia (had shingles on my face 3 time) Arthritis in my neck, depression, Anxiety attacks and of course PBC. It was while doing tests for my other problems the doctors in the hospital discovered I had PBC. I just thought the pains in my hands at the time were writers cramp haha. I just had more blood tests done last week and the results were that my PBC is still the same, no better no worse. So I suppose thats kinda good. So far I am the only one in family to have this condition. I hope it stays that way as I wouldnt wish it on anyone. Yes, its lovely to hear from other people in Ireland. I now live in the South Hams of Devon - about 1 to 2 hours away from the nearest hospitals depending on the tourist traffic. I was living in Hull when I was first told I had AMAs - but PBC was never mentioned, and I just had annual LFTs for 12 years until told to stop as I would never develop anything.
However I was born in Stoke-one-Trent. I mention this as I know some of the studies on PBC have indicated that there is a regional variation in its incidence.

Hi, I live in Ayrshire,Scotland, never heard of PBC until this year, had tests nearly two years ago for other conditions, wasn t till this year after seeing a consultant for a check up for the second time, did I find out from my doctor what my liver was checked for, think she thought I d been told, I am not on medication which is good, but the fatigue and feeling unwell at times gets me down, as I work long hours in a stressful job. Nice to know I can come to site that I am not alone with this, never heard of before this.

Currently I am doing very well thanks to combined medication: Ursodeoxycholacid, Budesonid low-dose and Bezafibrat.
