How long before I feel better?

I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago, I had 3 injections over a week, then went back to my Dr to tell him I didn't feel better after 4 weeks. He is repeating my bloods but seems to be looking for something else to be wrong. 6 weeks later I'm buying injections on line, I so want to feel better, how long does it take?

You don't say just what symptoms you are experiencing. In my case, mine were essentially limited to sometimes losing my balance, what folks refer to as "brain fog", and the "strange tiredness" that PA sufferers experience.

I was diagnosed in June 2012 and given five loading doses the first week, which relieved the brain fog a little; but I still had to struggle to think through simple tasks at work.

The strange tiredness was also not an immediate success story. I had been lacking in what I call "internal stamina" for a very long time; I would even be extremely tired from something as simple as baking a cake. I didn't seek help because I'd chalked it up to overtiredness resulting from caring for my elderly mother from 1999 to 2010.

It wasn't until the brain fog made me afraid that I was going to lose my job that I talked to my doctor. Anyway, the brain fog lifted some, but not enough, - and the tiredness was not affected at all - after the loading doses. I was prescribed monthly shots, but I knew that wasn't going to cut the mustard. So, I ordered 5000mcg sublingual methylcobalamin tablets and used a B12 patch almost daily for one week until the pills arrived; I take one pill a day.

Long story short, it was mid-to-late September before my internal stamina returned; it didn't take nearly that long for the fog to lift. I'm still tired every day, but I can think to do my job and can also perform some heavy physical tasks that would have been impossible a year ago.

I hope that helps you a little to understand what you're facing.

Thanks for the reply Nedi,

I have the tiredness, dizziness, and the fog, it's driving me crazy I feel like I can't focus to do the most simple tasks. I also can't find the right words a lot of the time which makes me feel stupid. I have bought some Injections on line and sublingual B12 but they are only 1000 mcg, it was the strongest I could find, but I wasn't sure how much to take. Maybe I'm being impatient but looking back I have had this deficiency for about 9 years and now that I have been diagnosed I just want to feel better!

I am also terrified about not being able to function properly in work, I haven't had any problems yet, other than the forgetting words and feeling stupid.

Im glad you are feeling better, do you feel back to normal?

You will get 5000mcg sublingual - swansons or Jarrows - from amazon. Some people use solar ones but they are more expensive.

Can I ask where you are buying your injections online from please?

Hi Gail,

I get the injections from chemistwearhouse.com.au or chemistaustralia.com.au. I'm lucky that we can buy on line here without prescription. chemistwearhouse deliver worldwide except Germany and Netherlands. Looks like chemistaustralia deliver worldwide too.

Thanks for your help,

Lisa

No, I can't say that I feel back to what used to be "normal" for me, but I am learning to live with my "new normal".

In regards to the B12 supplement I take, I purchase the 5000mcg sublingual tablets online from Wonderlabs; they're located in Tennessee. A four-month supply costs around twenty-five US dollars, including shipping They also have 1000 mcg tablets that include other necessary supplements: B6, folic acid, and biotin. If I were you, I would consider either adding this to your daily regimen, or purchasing those additional supplements separately.

I actually take other supplements now - mostly manufactured by Megafoods from whole foods products. The most important ones are a one daily women's vitamin and their blood builder product. Their products are expensive but worth it; I buy mine at our local Natural Grocers store.

You can search this forum for information about what supplements you should take in addition to the B12. I had done my own research and had already started taking the additional supplements before finding this forum.
