Does anyone know the origin of the practice of prescribing loading doses?
For lack of better information I have been using the assumption that it is a hol over from when B12 was first synthesized over 1/2 a century ago.
That the practice originated when B12 deficiency was thought to be a hematological issue exclusively and symptoms were not considered at all in any evaluation other than the recommendations of when to test.
Pretty much loading is rational if the goal is to bring hematological tests into range.
Note: That is scientific as it is repeatable and measurable. It does not always address symptoms.

I remember having loading doses of cyanocobalamin starting back on 19th May 1972 (i.e. 52 years ago coming up next month) but I don't recall that I given more than three injections over a few days before being put on a regime of every four weeks for the rest of my life.
They seem to be working as I'm still "clivealive" at the age of 82 😂
I suppose that was before Hydroxocobalamin was introduced .? The NHS consequently gave fewer b12 injections to PA patients , because they believed it stayed in the system longer .
That's a good point. Another decision with total disregard for symptoms. Good to know whatever the criteria the medical profession is using it is not effective treatment for their patients. Of course it always could just be lack of ability.
I received EOD injections for at least a month that sorted my migraines to what they are now, occasionally very much reduced in duration and severity. Then the injections went 2 a week for awhile , then 1 a week until I finally got the feeling back in my legs and feet after approximately 6 month . From then on 1 a month and more if necessary. My brainfog cleared to what it is now( very much better) I can retain what I have read. I had a female neurologist who trained in Poland as well as Sweden, before she settled in the U.K. Only to be asked to leave when she was no longer necessary. The same happened to the very knowledgeable GP from Lebanon in my GP practice. I was treated regarding my symptoms not by some higher edict.
