hi has anyone used wegovy. As a weight loss drug and found it to have a negative impact on PA ? I have some atrophic gastritis and get pain from time to time and I’m tempted to try the wegovy but don’t want to further irritate my guts or compound problems.

Sorry lifegems,

I have no idea but read this:- The most common side effects of Wegovy® may include: nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation, stomach (abdomen) pain, headache, tiredness (fatigue), upset stomach, dizziness, feeling bloated, belching.

It does not sound like my idea of FUN but we are all completely different.

Unfortunately, all those symptoms - I live with. My Coeliac Disease was found far too late but I just get on with it.

I do hope somebody else can help or email the company directly. Anyway, I wish you the best whatever you decide.

I was on Wegovy for 5 months last year. I was on a low dose and the only side effect I felt was a little nausea the first day I injected. No other problems. It was really effective and I would still be on it if I could get it. My pharmacist has been unable to get my dose for almost a year now. I'll tell you one thing about Wegovy that I found surprising, it seemed to "turn off a switch" in the part of my brain that reacts to food. I no longer craved food. Eating became purely perfunctory. Previously a lot of my thinking and time revolved around planning, shopping, cooking, and enjoying food. That just disappeared. It's a strange drug.

Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I think you still can get it in the U.K. maybe try a different pharmacy?

It's not the pharmacy, it's the dosage. My doctor prescribed a very low dose for me (it's sometimes called a vanity dose.). People who use Wegovy for medical reasons use doses that are over 1.5. This dosage is readily available where I live in the US. The company that makes Wegovy seems to be (and should be) focused on making medicine for people who really need it. My pharmacist keeps telling me the manufacturer says the supply will open up "soon". I've called every pharmacy within a 20 mile radius and they all just chuckle when I ask if they can fill my prescription. I tell them what I want and they say "You and everybody else."

Ah I see. So I’m guessing the “vanity dose” is simply for those who want to loose weight?

Yes, and that's me.

Yes me too. I’m starting. On .25 so we shall see how it goes

I did .25 for two months and then went to .50. I planned to stay at .50 because it was working well with out side effects. I was losing one to two pounds a month which was perfect.

Sorry, I meant one to two pounds a week, not month.

that’s perfect ! If I can get the same results. Did you find the weight came back on after stopping?

Wegovy is related to Ozempic, I was on that for a year for type 2 diabetes, and it was awful. Vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea, couldn't eat. I was taken back off it (I was going to stop taking it regardless of what the diabetes nurse said!)

I wouldn't recommend it if you've got stomach problems (I have terrible acid reflux, and probably gastroparesis)

Ah sorry you had a bad experience. I’m in two minds but may try it at a low does and see what happens

in reply tolifegems

Yeah, it was fine when I was on a 0.25g (or is it ml?) dose, but the GP kept increasing it, and at 1g/ml it got really bad...

That’s the dose I’m starting at so I shall see

Good luck! 🤞

I was on Saxenda a couple of years ago. It's in the same family as wegovy and other -glutides. Started with a small dose and gradually increased, in line with the program. Didn't lose as much weight as was predicted, had cyclical diarrhoea/constipation, vomiting and nausea and, at the end, fetched up in A&E at about 3am and spent 12 hours in hospital because of pain so severe I thought I was having a heart attack. Yeah it was great because for the only time in my life I didn't feel hungry and wasn't interested in food but the price wasn't worth it (literally - horrifically expensive - and figuratively) so I came off it. What weight I had lost came galloping back on plus an extra couple of kgs and now trying to avoid developing diabetes. I can't recommend it.
