All I know is its a term for a collection of symptoms with no other neat box or diagnosis can be found. My daughter was missing diagnosed with this.

She needed folate and b12 and iron as they didn't test and she had mycrocytic anaemia

Seemingly mostt on the fybromyalgia forum were found to be b12 folate and ferritin deficient.

Hi Mozza127,

I have/had a diagnosis of fibromyalgia which is diagnosed generally with wide spread pain which worsens with heat, touch, weather pressure. Also fatigue, other features such as bladder (interstitial cystitis) bowel problems. It generally falls under rheumatology.

It can be a misdiagnosis for vitamin B12 deficiency/PA (although, other deficiencies may contribute to the diagnosis). It also relates to non coeliac gluten sensitivity/coeliac and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth.

My chiropractor and I have great conversations about this umbrella term condition - we believe (this is only a closely shared opinion) it’s a yep there’s something wrong, don’t quite know what but we’ll give it a name and prescribe you pain meds and other stuff to manage your huge list of symptoms.

Hope that helps.

It isn't really a diagnosis so much as a label for a group of symptoms with an unknown cause.B12 deficiency can cause the same symptoms but so can a lot of other conditions and its a way of saying you have a group of symptoms but the actual cause hasn't been identified.

Hi,

Fibromyalgia was discussed in a fairly recent thread "Who has Fibromyalgia diagnosis" which you might find interesting to read.

Here's a link to the thread below.

If you search forum posts using term "fibromyalgia" you should find lots of other posts that mention fibromyalgia.

I agree with Nackapan's comment "All I know is its a term for a collection of symptoms with no other neat box or diagnosis can be found

Have you seen a rheumatologist?

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia years ago. As long as I get enough B12 and Vitamin D, I don't have fibro symptoms.

I suffered for years, kept asking if it could be B12 deficiency, kept getting ignored. When forced finally to treat myself with B12, my fibro symptoms gradually disappeared.

If you're in UK and have fibro type symptoms, NICE guideline on Chronic Pain below may be relevant

nice.org.uk/guidance/ng193

They talk about drugs for pain relief and talking therapy, acupuncture but I haven't found any mention of trialling B12 injections.

My experience is that in some parts of UK, a diagnosis of ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia is seen more as a mental health condition.

Can't see any mention of B12 deficiency in above link.
