I did have a couple of referrals to ENT but it was in person some time ago. Nothing was gained from it but I think they are always trying to rule things out.
I also saw a highly acclaimed professor privately at Charing Cross Hospital. I had a hearing test among other things. I was then diagnosed with idiopathic ataxia. It gave me an answer but nothing else.
If you can, list all your symptoms and e.mail them to the consultant.
Hopefully your appointment will be helpful to you,
I hope it goes well - I had a referral to ENT from Maxillofacial a couple of weeks ago, but that was straightaway in person, I think because it was an urgent 2 week referral though. The clinician did the referral that way because he said I wouldn't get seen for ages otherwise and there were cancer risks with my symptoms. I had a similar situation to you with a colorectal referral earlier this year, they started off with a phone call and then when it was clear he couldn't do anything without examining me, he invited me in for a face-to-face appointment.
I won't describe my experience unless that would be helpful because it was disappointing and I don't want to add to any pre-appointment anxiety. I'm undiagnosed with PA/B12 and am struggling to get many health professionals to listen to me so the situation may be very different for you. I hope your experience is more positive and that the doctor will listen because you have a diagnosis.
For reference I share some similar symptoms to you, my mouth-based symptoms are ongoing daily sore throats for 6 months+, pain swallowing and inflamed, red tonsils, general gum pain & mouth dryness, red spots inside roof of mouth and a red stripe on my tongue. I also get intense headaches above my right eyebrow where there is a groove in my skull, and in the past I've had a vibrating/fizzy feeling in my cheekbone area/under eye socket.
I had a 2 week urgent referral to dermatology ....
O was told by the nurse only way to get seen .
Bit lihe children being taken to A abd E for ear infections.
It wasnt cancer in my ear thak goodness.
A skin Infection that had nearly had healed after I eventually got a prescription I asked fir fto Gp. Took 4 months .
O had a 18m wait for a neuro Opthalmologist who had NO explanations let alone answers.
Thought anxiety !!! Say no more
The NHS are giving 'lip service '
It's very very worrying.
Om sorry to hear you have no help either or reasons.
My mouth Symptoms started after lots if dental treatment. Or coincidence??
The dentist said of course b12 deficiency effects your mouth and teeth
That’s like getting my car serviced over the phone. How bazaar! I hope the telephone consultation leads to a physical examination that you quite rightly deserve.
Hi nackapan just to share my experience with a ent which was just 2 years ago. He was very nice and gave me time to explain all my symptoms which some were similar to what you’ve explained you are experiencing. He sent me for a brain scan which came back normal which he sent me the results by letter. I continue to have symptoms I always have earache. Please let us know how you get on I wish you well you deserve answers x
Hi Nackapan, I feel very strongly that you should have a face to face appointment. When they ring you, you could say that you think you need to see them in person. Your symptoms are extensive and complex, a phonecall will not do them justice. Good luck x
I’m so sorry you’re receiving such ignorant, excuse-ridden ridiculousness. The use of the pandemic situation to excuse doing a fraction of a job seems to permeate everywhere we look. I despair that the values our health system is founded on have been lost in the blind mass hysteria that is trampling on human rights. You have a right to proper health care, and a right to reasonable adjustments within law, yet somehow all logic about this is absent. Do you have someone who can help you communicate with them? Patient liaison services or advocacy services may be able to help? I wish you all the best xx
