can anybody with pernicious anemia that gets b-12 monthly injections let me know if it could or would raise your cobalt serum levels? I had a DR run mine out of concern of a leaking hip that was done over 10 years ago.
Cobalt, Serum my value 3.0 UG/L standard <=1.0 UG/L
so it came back as flagged and he got me all concerned and did a 2nd replacement, but I was wondering if it was raised because of injection's. This after he already knew I got Cyanocobalamin shots for my disease.

the amount of cobalt in cobalamin is very small and it is also very tightly bound in the molecule so it really shouldn't have affected the serum cobalt but I am not a medical expert. If you are concerned then best to speak to your doctor.
Let's suppose your B12 injections boosted your levels to 6000 ng/L (way above the top of the range). Cobalt (atomic mass 59) represents 59/1355 = 0.04 or 4% of cyanocobalamin, by mass.
So 6000 ng/L of cyanocobalamin would be the same as 240 ng of cobalt per L. That is less than 10% of your value of 3,000 ng/L.
I figured I'd get a response from you fbirder, as my memory serves me I think you are a chemist or something along those lines. Sounds like it did come from the hip. thank you.
