Plagued by herpes

I’ve been plagued by frequent recurrent cold sores unless I stay on acyclovir prophylaxis and now I think it’s moved from my lip to my nose and eyes. Anyone else experience this or have any words of wisdom for me??

I should mention I’ve been trying to recover from b12 neuropathy for the past 2.5 years and give twice a day injections

Hi!

Sorry for the delay in replying - I lost your post and it's taken until now to find it again!!

Yes, me too! Horrible, isn't it?

I've been using 1.5mg in 1ml hydroxocobalamin ampoules daily for 4 years but don't think there's any connection with cold sores to high B12 supplementation, but more the need for it due to past damage - my immune system has always been almost non existent and my skin got worse as my other B12d symptoms increased.

Originally I was just treating the cold sores as they happened but hated getting them so much and so often that I too wondered if I could use the acyclovir prophylactically.

Although annoying that I have to, I found that it's worked a treat and I haven't had a cold sore at all for weeks (rather than, as you say, finding that they were getting worse).

Initially I was having to use it several times a day just to keep them at bay but now I only need to apply it once a day and it's not a disaster if I forget and am late using it. A few times I've forgotten until I've got the dreaded tingling sensation and while in the past it would have been too late for me by then, now I can stop it before it physically shows up.

My skin, which had become thickened from all the outbreaks and potential outbreaks is becoming softer again and going back to normal now too.

It really feels like there was a raging infection under the skin trying to break out anywhere at any moment but now the antiviral has wounded and subdued it so it is only a shadowy presence now!

I don't know if I'll ever be able to get away with not applying it prophylactically but I'm happy that it's now manageable and isn't getting me down.

I hope it can work for you like that too!

I wonder how much of an improvement we will eventually get with high dose B12? I know I'm still improving and this year have become able to talk fluently again when I'm not too tired, and my balance is further improved.

Good luck with yours!

I’m glad you are getting better. I think you’re right that we are getting more now as the damage is being repaired. I think the herpes will stop at some point. The nervous seems to take a long time to heal, but it’s amazing how it continues to get better. Thanks!

I use essential oils as well as acyclovir cream. Not at the same time but as an alternative.

As it's caused by the herpes virus it will activate when your

immune system is struggling.

Vitamin C and the good food to boost your immune system is all you can do.

I used to get them quite alot. One thing that at present I'm not plagued with.

I think it is connected to B12. Other people have said it too. I get them when I'm run down but only my nose. Sorry to hear you've got them more widespread.

What about taking vit C and zinc to try and boost the immune system?

Try and up the rest and relaxation if at all possible?

Do you know what the cause is of your deficiency? Just asking as sores are connected to some conditions like coeliac as well.

And are you on iron?

Thanks for the replies! As of now I haven’t been diagnosed with PA or anything else. I test negative for Celiac and many other things. I think I just get too run down with work and family responsibilities.

Hi, I used to get cold sores all the time. I discovered l lysine. I take it every day (as well as good quality Ester c(vit c) and never get them now. The only time I got one was when I stopped l lysine. It’s an easy and brilliant solution for cold sores.

I've looked into it and ordered some!

Thank you for your suggestion.

Brilliant, just keep taking it and see how it goes. I use viridian or solgar but no doubt most brands would work. 🤞🤞🤞

I've decided to buy the powder mostly because I have absorption problems and so can hopefully get some into my system under my tongue at least.

But the additional benefits of it seem to it being purer, cheaper and not having to swallow big tablets!

I'll "suck it and see"!! 😁
