Hi Ben1988. Are you able to include the reference ranges foryour blood results (bit difficult to comment unless we know what they are). Reference ranges are the two figures - usually in brackets - that follow the results.
👍
Hi
Sorry forgot that bit
These numbers where in the brackets
0.280 nmol/L for MMA
25-108 pmol/L for b12
Cheers
Thanks Ben. Did the MMA range have a 'less than' (<) symbol in front?
I,ve edited the reference ranges into your post so that others can see easily and comment.
Assuming you are having B12 injections...your serum B12 is above the reference range, which is to be expected when injecting B12. Your MMA levels are dropping, likely as a consequence of the B12 injections (because MMA is now starting to be 'used up' by the processes that metabolise vitamin B12).
Not sure how long you've been on treatment but MMA could be expected to drop to within normal limits quite quickly once treatment has commenced...if it's originally raised because of B12 deficiency.
If MMA remains raised despite treatment, it's possible that that there may be other underlying causes, which should be investigated, though the fact that it's now falling makes this more unlikely.
Note: Following B12 injections serum B12 levels are meaningless in relation to assessing the effectiveness of treatment. Treatment should be based on the alleviation of symptoms rather than whatever B12 levels happen to be
👍
Thankyou so much for all your help
Makes a lot more sense now !
Been having injections just about a year or so now ... and as I say the MMA was elevated at 294
My father has pernicious anemia aswell and his grandmother before him and I was the “lucky one “ to inherit it aswell !
My fatigue levels are very bad and I’m going to start self injections once or twice a month aswell as the 3 monthly jab I receive from gp to see if this helps with symptoms atm
Thankyou
