I get Hydroxocobalamin shots from the doctor and SI with methylcobalin (subcutaneously) can this do more harm than good?

Hi Pittman I think there are others on here who "mix and match"

Personally I have cyanocobamalin injections every three weeks and use a methycobamalin spray daily without any side effects.

Do you know what your Folate level is?

I am not a medically trained person but I've had P.A. (a form of B12 deficiency) for more than 45 years.

I wish you well.

Hi clivealive, I was diagnosed many years ago with PA and struggled for years to get my injections more frequently which I managed to do about 2 years ago (monthly), I have recently moved and hence had to change doctors and so it starts again. New doctor said he’s not against the monthly jab but still wants to do a blood test, i haven’t had any other tests done for a long time. Have read lots of comments on here regarding taking folate and other vitamins alongside b12 but can be quite confusing.

Pittman, there is no known toxicity from B12.

It will, as you know, mean that your B12 levels are going to be high but that doesn't mean that B12 should stop as serum B12 isn't a good tool for managing B12 absorption problems once injections have started as the injections introduce a new factor (having raised serum B12 via an injection) that means normal range no longer applies - and it is much easier to follow symptoms - though the overlap with other conditions does mean that you need to be careful that other conditions aren't also starting - eg hashimotos (auto-immune thyroidosis) develops in 40% of people who have PA - so a full set of bloods wouldn't hurt.

Thank you for your reply, would you know which bloods I need to ask them to do?

would suggest, full blood count, full thyroid, serum folate, hbA1C
