The Science Daily news headline you copied and elaborated upon is in error. This study sets forth the results of a theoretical model – a computer simulation of neural and biochemical interactions in Parkinson's.

Interesting and thought-provoking but not clinical or laboratory evidence. As a consequence it cannot be said to debunk anything.

I don't understand any of this, but I have always been puzzled (and thrilled) by the success of PTT ultrasound. Neither dopamine nor dopaminergic neurons area added or restored, but patients' symptoms disappear. It makes me wonder if our focus on dopamine is misplaced. This article seems to suggest that as well. Thanks for sharing!

Its PTT. Pallidothalamic tractotomy (PTT), has been performed since 2011 using the MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) technique.

I think this post is worthy of further discussion. Obviously, we know the causes of PD are multifaceted, but our obsession with dopamine appears to be misplaced. It also explains how people with PD for over a decade can have symptoms almost immediately alleviated through various forms of Focused Ultrasound. Thank you, JayPwP!
