Natalie was kind enough to start a thread on Recipes, but I was curious about what type(s) of food you find most disagreeable.
I've been reading all the disagreeable foods in the Facebook support group.
So what are the worst foods for you?
Why? Does it cause pain? Bloating? Diarrhea?
I'll start. NUTS
This is funny because I never realized there was a problem until my husband was telling me how his mother couldn't eat them. He was young and he just remembers it 'bothered her stomach' but after years of piecing together her symptoms, we've determined she must have had chronic pancreatitis.
Anyway, I started paying attention when I ate them and they constipate me.
Sad, I know. I LOVE NUTS! But it's one or two tiny little nuts and that's it for me.
Velveeta - I haven't even tried eating this since it caused an attack years back. Not that it's a huge loss, but I did enjoy the queso.
Your turn!

I agree with the fried meats definitely! We generally don’t really fry anything…just never have done, but if there’s ever been an occasion when I have eaten fried meat, it certainly triggers the pain…as does any fried food for me. I’ve also had my gallbladder removed so that doesn’t help either with the fatty foods.
It’s really interesting learning more about how different things affect everyone.
Did you have gallstones? I didn’t have them but my gallbladder had been chronically inflamed and wasn’t functioning at all…it was all linked with my pancreatitis diagnosis.
Yes, the fatty foods I try and really avoid…although I am slightly partial to a Chinese takeaway sometimes but just deal with the consequences 🤪
No stones , just diseased gall bladder. My daughter also had the same she was only 25 yrs old. Apparently its hereditary. My Grand mother had the same.
My problems started 49 years ago, heart attack type pain, gallstones, removal, episodes of pain and diarrhea ever since, but those who had gall bladder removal, did your doctor tell you you would have problems eating anything? No one ever told me anything!
Yes having diabetes 2 since March last year, I've had to adapt a diet, which I thought quite successfully until last week, I luv nuts especially cashew nuts which sometimes I was using as the centre of a meal, I would have a very full stomach even sweating in bed, DOH! could it be the cashew nuts like yourself I luv nuts, BUT like chocolate, and a lot of cheese now NO! NO's!🥴🥴
So sorry I missed your post, Adlon. Yes! I LOVE NUTS! All kinds of them. But sadly, even two or three peanuts will stop me up for days. I don't get as much pain anymore but all the other symptoms are there.
So far, cheese and I are still friends. Never had a problem there.
Yeah, chocolate - there are some decent sugarless options out there, organic and sweetened with stevia. Diabetes takes the fun out of almost everything sweet. But I've learned the 'all things in moderation' mantra. (Finally) I can have just about anything I want. Sometimes it may only be a single bite or two but I don't completely deprive myself. Other than staying away from those things I know cause problems, of course.
Nuts are an interesting one! Nothing pancreas related but my little nephew has a severe nut allergy and nearly had to have a plane do an emergency landing for him going on holiday once. I also get severe asthma and nuts definitely don’t help with that.
I’ve never taken much notice of them from a manky panky point of view. Obviously we try and avoid them because of my nephew but I’ll take note next time!
Actually my father used to sneak down in the middle of the night for smelly cheese, he knew he had diabetes, like myself, but thought "Ah a wee bit of cheese wont hurt!" it did, a major heart attack! He died🥴 I can have a WEE bit of cheese, but ALWAYS in moderation!😗
Guess who tried to finish to finish some cheese in the fridge, 🥴not a good idea, swollen stomach, and sweated like a pig🥶, pillow and bed, REMEMBER "ALWAYS in moderation!😗"
Bananas! Also, I don’t know if you or anyone else has problems with eating anything at certain times of the day. I can’t eat during the day without pain and nausea. I’ve found that around 4:30, I can eat. I don’t eat until dinner. I can snack until bedtime. The only meat I can eat is boneless chicken breast. My veggies have to be cooked. No dairy for me either and no oils ever.
Susaberry Yes! Absolutely! I also have a hard time with anything before 5 pm. Pain, nausea, and most of the time midday, I'd vomit it back up.
I have only a couple of things that will stay down in the mornings I can't eat until late morning because my nausea is so bad. So by late morning, I'll have a Boost or Ka'chava.
I started making some bone broth veggie soup for lunch and it's been fabulous. I can eat it (most days) without pain or nausea. And I keep it down 😀
Hi Karen and Susaberry, This is a very interesting conversation. I’m wondering why it’s not possible for you guys to be able to eat until evening because of the pain etc. Is there a scientific reason behind this, or is it just how it is?
It is interesting, Dee. I think mine is because of the Gastroparesis. And it makes total sense to me now, because I can tell those mornings that my stomach is still fuller than it should be. I'm much more nauseous on those mornings, (it's often what wakes me up) and it can last well into the afternoon.
Susaberry - have you ever had problems with a slow-emptying stomach?
From what I've heard and read so far, it seems to be quite common in diabetics and those with Chronic PC.
I posted my recipe here somewhere on the post asking for Recipe suggestions.
I use carrots, celery, leeks, lots of ginger & garlic, mushrooms (when I can tolerate them) and the chicken I used for the bone broth. With my Instantpot, I can get bone broth in a little over an hour rather than having to simmer it for hours.
