Hi everyone, thanks for letting me join the group. In April I went to A-E with terrible pains in my chest everything was ok but still had the pain doc said it was costochonoritis pain subsided but has never gone away.Yesterday evening it was horrendous , I’m trying to figure out what causes it and I’m thinking could it be carrying heavy shopping bags hanging waiting out ,am I right in thinking that when you grip tightly it puts a lot of pressure across your chest.thanks for listening any help would be appreciate as I’m to help myself for a change .

I also have this problem, and at it's worst it was pretty unbearable. You think there is something wrong with your heart, and I had all the checks for this, which my Rheumy arranged with the Cardiac Doctor. However it is inflammation of the ligaments/tendons, and there is no medication that I am aware of that can help very much. I have the pain most mornings when I wake up, and spend several minutes sat on the edge of the bed before I get out just doing stretching of the affected area, which really helps, and the rest of the day it is ok. Hope this helps.

No, I don't afraid. It just suddenly started about a year ago. I have had Polymyalgia for nearly 4 years now.

If inflammation then worth trying ibuprofen which works on inflammation as well as being a pain killer.

I’m allergic to aspirin and anti inflammatory medicine so hopefully they’ll be something else I can take thanks

HelloHeavy lifting and stress always sets off my Costco. I too can’t take anti inflammatory medicine, but use the phor pain 10% pain gel you can have it prescribed from your gp. Heat helps a lot I also use a hot water bottle I use a small one for my front and a larger one for my back it really helps ease the pain. I take paracetamol when needed.

Ask your gp for 10% phor pain gel it’s ibrufen it definitely helps. It’s a clear gel you rub in.

Hope this helps. I too have been to A& E when the pain was so bad I thought it was a problem with my heart. I had chest x ray and ecg all normal. I sometimes get pain in my shoulders and upper arms too especially the left arm. Good luck
