Sleep deprivation. As alot of people on here been taken off pain meds and sleep medication.i dont sleep for 48 hours then crash out i fell reall ill i have put on alot of weight because i cant be as active as i was before. My G.p is not interested she says its the law but i know people older than me who still have their pain meds. Ihave made an official complaint and told patients dont have a legal right o a 2nd opinion or to pain meds. This was by a medical govering body not my gp. What am i supposed to do my life is not worth living.

If it’s the law that you are fighting and not your GP? Then I would imagine you would have to start quoting the Human Rights Act to your GP... I’m sure it’s worth trying your local CAB office with help on that.

I am afraid that is correct, you have no specific right in law to ask for a second opinion.

The rights and duties for the NHS and patients are set out here in the NHS constitution:

gov.uk/government/publicati...

You don't have a right to a second opinion, but you can asked to be referred to another doctor.

The best thing to do is ask for a referral to a pain clinic. They would have to have a pretty good reason not to refer you to a pain clinic.

Hello, first of all your life IS worth living. If you feel like you have suicidal thoughts I would seek help immediately! My husband felt the need to take is own life, thinking we all would be better off without him. Which is absolutely NOT true about him or ANYONE!!! That was back in 1999 and it is still something I struggle with daily. Yes every single day my heart hurts for myself and his entire family where he grew up with 7 siblings and of course his parents who have been sending posts on FB every day since FB became a thing back in 2009.

Where is it that you live and are not allowed to seek a second opinion? I personally use this site to find suggestions on a condition I was diagnosed with this October after breaking my foot. It’s called CRPS (chronic regional pain syndrome) and it hurts like hell! I’m in the US where it is after 3AM and completely understand the struggles of not sleeping. I do take several pain medications but feel I have reached a point where the side effects, (“may cause drowsiness”) have gotten to a point of non-existence. I have a history of fainting while on some sleeping pills so I stay clear of those that knock me out cold. Example, I woke up (sleep walking) and walked around my house only to come out of it and ended up with a bloody lip and a broken jaw bone. Had to have my mouth wired shut for just over 6 weeks. I must say, my now husband didn’t seem to mind. Lol!

So without knowing where you are and why your network of doctors is not allowing you to seek second or even third options seems unheard of. I’m not a medical professional so I hesitate suggesting any over the counter meds or home remedies that work for me. I’d say, do some more research that can help you get a good nights sleep 💤. Sorry I haven’t been much help but sometimes it’s good to know your not alone with daily struggles and frustrating battles that are hard to explain to get the right treatment or answers to.

Please try and keep your spirits up. I am available to lend an ear if you need to let off steam or just say hello. Thanks for listening to my 2020 crazy years saga.

I’d contact a lawyer. Maybe he/she can advocate for you.

Surely they should look at each patient as an individual and what their needs are it must be so difficult for you. I a aliwed two sleeping tablets a week and they give me about 4 hours of disjointed sleep, the other days I am lucky to get two so I know how long those sleepless nights are. I've always bee a insomniac so used to sleepless nights but as have learnt since being ill lying awake without pain is a entirely different thing to lying there with pain as you have no respite from it.

My pain mesds have been left as they are but each time I have a review I wonder how long that will be the case as have heard of so many people beinb taken off them. I have tried to cut them down to the bare minimum I can cope on in anticipation of the day they do.

Have you tried going to another doctor in the practice who might be more sympathetic to your case?

Please seek immediate help through the National Suicide Hotline (1-800-273-8255) if you need help. You are SO worthy of being here!!! Please don't let your doctor be the final point with your situation. I have been in Pain Management for over 20 years, and at one point took myself off everything- I was on Fentanyl patches 75mcg, Hydrocodone 30 mg three times daily for breakthrough pain, Valium 10mg three times daily, and Ambien 12.5 mg at night. I was losing everything-myself, my family, my future. So, one night I emptied everything down the drain and flushed the patches. Well...not the smartest thing I've ever done, as I landed in the hospital for 12 days. I refused to be bound to medication and managed about a year- then realized my pain was controlling my life just as I thought the medication was. I found a new Pain Management group and with full transparency was able to restart treatment. Please look within your city for a good group. They are there :)
