When I have had back / shoulder pain aswell as pain medication the GP usually refers me to physiotherapist to see if that helps.

Is the pain, muscles tightness on one side? The other thing I have had is 'pain management'. It helps if you have long term pain to notice if anything exacerbates it e.g. sitting down or being on the computer for longer.

Doctors can prescribe cortisone injections but usually only after other things have failed.

Have you tried an osteopath? Some GP surgeries now have osteopaths working with them as they are classed as Allied Health Care Professionals like physios are.
