Can low iron cause anxiety and panic attacks?

The doctor thinks no but I’ve got low iron and I can’t stop feeling anxious when I’m not usually. (This was happening way before Covid)

It might not be the low iron itself causing anxiety, but the low iron causing other changes in the body, in particular to neurotransmitters, that could cause symptoms of anxiety, depression and panic.

Or it could be that what ever is causing the low iron is also causing the anxiety. Anxiety can be the result of autonomic dysfunction, and some gastrointestinal problems can also cause anxiety.

This article might help a bit, and the second one might be one to show your doctor.

Thank you, it’s been going on for quite a while now and I feel like I’m being diagnosed with having anxiety when I have never suffered from it before. I’ll take a read of that article.

It might also be worth looking into various types of dysautonomia such as POTS . The symptoms of POTS can be very similar to the symptoms of anxiety. potsuk.org/managing_anxiety
