Spinal Cord Stimulation

Hi,

I’m a newbie, my history is long and complex so I shan’t bore you with the details.

I have been referred to Guys/St Thomas for SCS and was wondering if anyone is able to advise timeline from referral to appointment.

Thank You, in advance

Hi

From what I remember it was between 6-8 weeks. They rang me first to check that I could attend on that day and then I received a letter in the post confirming the date. If you have any further questions, I will try my best to answer them for you.

Best wishes

Hi, my referral wait was 5 months. That was last year so mamahill's experience may be more recent. They get so many referrals that I think a good idea to expect a long wait then if you get seen sooner then great. Let us know how you get on. Best wishes.

I hope all goes well with the stimulator.

I went through a trial with a stimulator about 10 years or more ago.

I see that you have had two replies....

So i take it you are both happy with your implants.... That is great.

Can I ask a few questions :-

Are you both back at work now?

Are You leading an active life?

Was the stimulator fitted for back pain or to help with Sciatic pain?

Are you off prescription drugs now.

Regards,

Steve.

Hi Steve, unfortunately I didn't even get as far as a trial as I didn't have the 'right kind of pain'. Absolutely gutted as it was last chance saloon for me. I do hope something else comes along that might help or get a second chance at the SCS. Did you get any relief with the trial?

Best wishes.

Thanks peeps, I’m already past 5 weeks mamahill so I will presume your one of the ‘lucky’ ones.

Could I also ask if you had to attend a residential placement as part of the treatment?

Thanks

Hi PollyWJ i too have pelvic pain and am also being accessed by St Thomas for a stimulator,it has taken me 10yrs to get here.i am at last going for my premed etc next week for a trial, it does seem to take a long time. I did a pain management course in my home hospital so was able to just attend a day long course called technical day at St Thomases.i will let you know how i proceed next week. It has taken about a year to get to this point. Bobby

Hi Bobby

I went for my consultation last week, and unfortunately they couldn’t put one in, they said because of other disabilities I have I wasn’t suitable.

To be honest I was really upset as my pain is monstrous and I thought it would take even a little pain and stop me having to take so much Diazapam and Oromorph.

Nonetheless I wish You all you wish for yourself, I hope everything goes great for you x will you update us when your recovered and have had a little time to get used to it ?.

All the very best Liljacklucyhenry4 (Great name 😀) xx
