Surely prevention is beter than cure?

Pat x

Nothing wrong with being healthy. All it takes is to stop smoking, drink less alcohol, eat more fruit and veg, exercise more. We all know what happens if we don't - heart problems, organ damage, stroke, cancer.

Why do it to yourself?

And then expect to be put back together again?

And realise too late, that your life has changed with a wjole new set of challenges and stress.

More funds are/would be available to address the serious uncurable illnesses that cause thousands of deaths. I do wonder at how much the NHS would save if people only saw their GP for genuine reasons. I know people who go every week with the same complaint, nothing changes, same condition and same treatment/non treatment - Surely the point of seeing your GP is to create change - and if the GP can't create change, why waste time and resourses? You can keep an eye on the news yourself and when a new treatment for your condition is announced, go and see your GP then to see if it's suitable for you.

Yes, I am aware some people are monitored for various reasons and have to go every week for tests. I'm not talking about them.

Society has changed since Maggie T's yuppie everyone for himself era. Nobody thinks about community, the ripple effect an individuals action has on it, how taking responsibility for our own health by changing our lifestyle could benefit more people and conversely, going to the GP for no reason uses up precious resources. Nobody thinks of the greater good of the community anymore.

I agree...you can prevent most illnesses, heck even chronic conditions by what you eat! It's not that hard! I'm not a big fan of running to the Dr every time something is wrong..all they do is give you drugs...which lead to bigger problems for your body to fight...the natural, organic, holistic way works for me and I believe in it far more than what they can give me. Im tired of seeing commercials about all these drugs and then hearing the disclaimer parts in a low toned voice of possible side effects...its disgusting! Sorry for the rant...LOL

What a lucky person you are! You've obviously led a good, healthy life and haven't experienced severe pain. I sincerely hope that you never do as you're clearly not equipped with any strength to cope with it. I would willingly swap all my NHS drugs to eat berries or trees if they had the remotest chance of helping me with my indescribable pain I'd have a bucketful every day. Sadly, it isn't as easy as that so I will visit my GP once a year for a drug revision in the hope that one day a new drug will be out to control neuropathic pain. Keep well, you deserve to.

Deejayem, Sorry you feel this way, I have had plenty of my fair share of surgeries and pain and still do. I just had a major back fusion surgery less than a month ago! I've just learned to cope with it in a way that suits me, I didn't say it was for everyone! I hope one day you will find something that works for you as well!

I'm with you Deejayem, hindsight a wonderful thing but also is wisdom, which I'm afraid sometimes we don't learn untill it's to late.
