Hi not sure if anyone has any advice for ear ache, I have seen an ENT consultant who can't find anything wrong so has said it's related to my CRPS, I have been to my dentist and had back tooth out. I already take loads of pain meds but nothing other than Norfen is helping. Any ideas ?

Thank u very much

Hello

If you have had a tooth removed ask the dentist ask if He could XRay the jaw and that may show if anything is there in the the jaw. He could refer you to a Dental Hospital, they will check the jaw and an Orthopedic Surgeon may see you. If you have had extensive extractions it may be to ge for that referral

One thing will show in your diagnosis here is it you have problems sitting with doors open when in a warm room, the cold air will cause the earache.

If it is not that go back to the GP and confer with him. You need to understand I am not a GP or Dental Surgeon

Good Luck

BOB

Something that might help you cope a little bit better is to try and relax your jaw and tongue. It's amazing how much tension we carry in the jaw and tongue and it can really help with relaxation just focusing on relaxing them for 20 mins or so. in the mean time i think Bob is definitely write about an x-ray, you really need to rule out anything more pernicious than a bad tooth. I don't know if a dentist x-ray will go far enough though, they do tend to be very tightly focussed around the teeth and jaw. Make sure you get your inner ear, parotid gland and the other twoo glands (can't remember what they are called!) x-rayed as well. My sister had earache for two years and it turned out to be acinic cell carcinoma around her parotid gland. It is difficult to diagnose and easily missed. FYI she's fine now :-) Hope you find some relief. Ttfn Heather

It is possible that you have very tight muscles in the head and neck which is causing referred pain such as ear ache. An ENT consultant is very unlikely to have looked for this. It is worth finding someone who can give good massages and determine if you have very tight muscles that should not be tight.

Be sure to check that there is not something else that may be causing the pain. Ie pressure on a nerve caused by a tumor or something. This is the department of the GP and dentist. Be very specific on describing your symptoms to the dentist and ask him to check for any possibility of mouth problems.

Research tmj. A lot of people with chronic pain conditions have this ass an overlapping condition.

I also have sharp ear pain/aching at times and relate that to osteoarthritis in neck and shoulders and referred pain as I can ease it by pressing on pressure points on my collar bone!

I've had ear ache as part of chronic facial pain. It hadn't bothered me for ages but funnily enough I had it last week when things were bad again. Like you I've also had ENT investigations, including brain scans, and nothing abnormal was found. I've also had investigations into my jaw joint (temporomandibular joint) - all normal, and I see my dentist regularly, again nothing wrong there!

I have a lot of neck and shoulder problems, for which physio has helped. A heat pack held over the ear when it's throbbing is also useful.

Not what you're looking for?
