Hi shuggy54, sorry I don't know what mst 30mg is, so unfortunately, can't help.

Hello Shuggy

We need too know what you are calling MST,

Pain control meds are like this if you take an opiate you can take an NSID, also togerther with an non opiate pain killer, For a nurological pain you can also take selective antidepressants like amytrytalene included with above they are given in a reduced dose ie

between 25 mg to 75mg.

You can also use TENS machines or pain pens on top of that, About above you will really need to discuss with doctor.

If you are deppressed you may need a further antidepressant, although you are now getting to a possible limit for your meds. You are now talking relaxation techniques and training from a pain control clinic, you must minimumize your meds where possible

All the best

Morning

Really, it's a conversation you need to have with your doctor, opinions and personal experience are just that, you and your medic will need to discuss what works and what doesn't for you.

Bob's advice is spot on though. Relaxation techniques, meditation and Mindfulness are all pain relief techniques you should explore. Also, TENS could well help you, especially given you can use it as often as you like and it will not add to any side effects impacting on your system.

Hi Suggy, MST tablets are Morphine Sulfate Tablets, and you take 30mg twice a day, eg,10 am and 10 pm and the dose is usually upped to 40mg . and so on Talk to your Doctor and you should be given something else for eg, Oromorph for break through pain. Co codamol is ok. You should phone your GP Best wishes to you Love Moggiemay

I think taking tramadol with MST is a waste of time, Tramadol did nothing for me but everyones different, try asking your pain consultant or GP to try for a limited time an increase in the Mst or try adding oromorph liquid or bruomorpine patchs, if you can ware patchs, there is also fental losengers etc

Are you taking pregabalin or gabapentin because these drugs also have a calming effect on nerve pain, if your not on this then ask. There are allot of combinations that can be tried and many that are proven over years, I know as at one time or another I have been on them all. The main thing is not what you take is the quality of live you have and then what you have to take to get the quality so don't worry about what these drugs do long term because they just don't know but they are all so scared of taking them on a long term basis but taking cocodamol is more dangerous long term than opiods like MST which is Morphine slow release I been on large doses of this for 20years and everything still ok.

There is also other treatments for pain these days like lidocaine infusions ie IV Lidocaine or Ketamine can give certain patients up to 4 to six weeks pain free only problem is trying to find a consultant who will give it a go,as it's new good luck XX

They really shouldn't be taken together, you need to tell your doctor so he can give you something else

Hello

Well have learned what mst is I knew it as something else.

In the early days of your pain, medications offered seem to be on a never ending list the problems are that we soon get down the list , as all patients are so different as are their conditions and body requirements. That is why it takes so long to get the right ones that hit the mark

That is why a Pain Clinic is always a good idea

All the best

Hi shaggy54 You must speak to your Dr before mixing your tablets I tried two tramadol and two paracetamol together and finished up in hospital I had a bad reaction to the tramadol the hospital treated me for an overdose even though my Dr prescribed it for me. I suffer chronic back pain I take a variation of pregabalin from 100mg to 300mg depending on how bad the pain is I also have four injections twice a year in the bottom of my spine and lazer treatment in between the injections and use my tens machine I am never pain free but all this together gets me through, good luck to you with your pain but be careful

i would like to thank you all for your reply's, i have now spoken to my doc and he has increased my mst to 40mg twice a day plus use the oramorf as required, but i also have to keep a record of how often i use the oramorf so he can work out exactly how much mst i will require, he has to be carefull how much he gives me as i have other problems and other meds i take, i am on life long warfarin and i have to keep my blood at a certain level, at one point i was taking over 300 tabs a week this has now been reduced by 18 tabs a day since going on to mst, i will just have to wait and see how it goes.

i have 3 types of arthrites but the worst one at the moment is whole spine spondiloices which through time will become poker spine as my discs are non existant and the vertabrates are fusing together.

any way thank's again for all the advice.

regards

Hi Shuggy, You dont have your sorrows to seek with all the problems you have with Spondylosis and vertebrae and disc trouble. I read somewhere that Bone Cement can be injected to help your problem !! maybe you can ask about it. I will see if I can find anything about it, OH for a magic wand !!

Kind Regards Moggiemay xx

Hi Shuggy, Its Moggiemay again

Just checked out the Bone Cement,There is Spinal Surgery implants, and it looks like scafolding on the spine.Made by a company called Stryker, they used to make special frames for spinal injuries patients, they may still do this ??? It is worth asking unless it has been ruled out. I am off to bed. Moggiemay x

can i please say that your doc might not have told you it can take 12 months to come off this stuff... u are where i was 3 years ago. and i went up to 300mg every 24 hours.. do not increase the mst if u can help it add other meds to it like paracetamol increases the effect of the mst... add a tens machine to the area. do anything but increase. i am now on 125mcg/hr fentanyl patches wich may be ur next step after reaching the max on mst

Hi, there is so muc good advice here I don't know if it's worth giving my twopennys worth but I really think you 'should'try everything else before increasing your MST. It's horrible stuff and so difficult to stop taking if you want. Have you been refferred to a pian clninc at any time? My advice would be to find out as much as poss about relaxation techniques and meditation and possibly see a nutritionist. For relaxation there are loads of techniques you just need to find one that will work for you. Things that are low impact are Tai Chi/Chi Kung/Alexander Technique and hydrotherapy, plus body mapping and maybe something called Andover technique might help. Oh yes and a freind of mine with Ankylosing Spondulitis with rheumatoid arthritis swears by Yoga. Hope this is some help. Ttfn Heather

Sorry to hear that you are still in pain. I empathise I am still struggling to find a combination to help.

If you are thinking of throwing other drugs into your mix. You must seek medical advise. You have a health history and despite it all they are the experts. I hate scuttling backward and forwards especially when some are less than understanding.

As an alternative. Did you know that you can request an appointment with pharmacist to discuss medications if you live in the U.K. They are the experts.

Good Luck.

I am quite a fan of Alternative Approaches if you have the cash to splash. There nothing ventured nothing gained I would say.

Only lay off the magic mushrooms they will not work magic on pain trust me.

X

I find you get used to everything so I alternate between the two, plus others like gabapentine and amitriptyline and patches
