There is a correlation between Vitamin d and say MS.....Though Pagets may be mainly heredity...and a sufferer of Pagets can have vitamin d problems.....Can vitamin d problems be the cause of Pagets to...or rather is the vitamin d problem secondary problem to Pagets?

I have been having VitD problems now for a couple of years, which has a knock on effect with my parathyroid levels. There is an extensive family history, going back four generations, of Paget's and I am having this investigate at the moment due to low VitD, high ALP levels and high parathyroid levels.

On two occasions my Endocrinologist has given me a high powered, 50,000iu, VitD course which brings my vitamin D levels up to sufficient but within months it is back down on the floor again and neither my GP or my endo can explain where it is going.

I know the above does not answer your questions but maybe a poll could be set up regarding what vitamins and blood tests sufferers are finding they are having trouble with.

I am taking Vitamin B12, B6, Calcium and Vitamin D its had to get them all in in a day LOL

Problems with vitamin D have not been identified as a cause of Paget's disease. Vitamin D stimulates the absorption of calcium from the intestines and enhances the deposition of calcium into bone. People with Paget’s disease who are treated with bisphosphonates should also be treated with vitamin D (unless the blood level is satisfactory) because bisphosphonates can cause low blood calcium in people with vitamin D deficiency.

The National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) has developed a Practical Clinical Guideline on Vitamin D and Bone Health. Primarily intended for health care professionals it can be downloaded from the internet nos.org.uk/document.doc?id=...

You can read an article regarding vitamin D by Prof Francis in the current Paget's Newsletter available to registered members of the Paget's Association (paget.org.uk).
