Not all cases are for borderline tumours, a lot of people on here have had this done because of ovarian cancer (not borderline) myself included...I am not sure what your question is, but most operations are done by the NHS because of the nature and urgency of the disease it is often quicker to go down the NHS route...this site is a support group for OC this is why you will find most information on here is not only about hysterectomy...the recovery time would be the same though whether you have cancer or not, I am sorry that I am not much help but If your question means that you are wondering whether you have this or not you could give Ovacome helpline a ring Tel 0845 371 0554

Sorry Gwyn, I realize my question wasn't clear. I meant to say that on the particular question I had read re recovery time, I noticed the 4 answers were people who had had it done for borderline tumors. My question was just whether any of them had been covered by their insurance privately as if so I would have liked some advice. I have to have it done and my insurance are giving me a hard time. Sorry if I sounded insensitive

Hi I am sorry that I didn't understand the question, but I didn't think you were being insensitive, I just looked up recovery and I now see what you mean, perhaps if you looked up "oopherectomy" (under tags) or "hysterectomy" maybe some of the answers will be what you are looking for...the only tag under "insurance" is about travel insurance I don't know whether there's a tag for "health insurance" or "private insurance" I have been trying to think of key words where you might find an answer .

I hope you find the answer soon love x G x

I thought maybe you could look under oopherectomy rather than salpingo or there are a lot of posts tagged surgery, it is really finding the words that other people have tagged it under best wishes xx

Hello Berry

I do not have any experience of private medical insurance, however I think that recovery times would be dependant on whether the operation is done laproscopically (key-hole surgery) or with a full incision (laparotomy). I think that if you had the full-incision then the recovery times are similar to hysterectomy, ie 6 weeks no heavy lifting or driving.

Perhaps you can get some advice from the hospital who will be performing your surgery, ie what surgery method it will be and how long the recommended recovery time is.

I think that the reason ladies who have borderline tumors have a salpingo oopherectomy is because if an invasive cancer is suspected the recommended treatment would be the full hysterectomy, not just removal of the ovary.

Hello,

My husband had private medical cover through the company he works for. When I was first diagnosed we asked about going private as we were advised by the consultant at the hospital that as it was cancer it would be no quicker going down the private route and we would probably end up having the same surgeon too. I was operated on really quickly and cannot fault the care i recieved. I have had surgery twice oopherectomy first (had complications) then had hysterectomy a few months later. Recovery was the same for both operations. May be a bit more tired and weak after 2nd but I had also had chemo.

Good luck

Lorraine
